Hello, and thanks for reading my profile! I have quite a bit of experience teaching reading, reading comprehension skills, and phonics. I am great with the elementary school age and middle school students. I have worked for the San Diego Unified School district for 10 years in special education. I also ran classes utilizing Linda Mood Bell and Read Naturally. I get very serious teaching my subjects, because our time together is not that long. I'm very friendly and outgoing, and also very compassionate. My students love me!! I also have an AS degree in Speech Pathology as an assistant. Even though I am licensed to do therapy, I utilize my skills with reading and reading comprehension. My experience entails all spectra of special ed, including Down's syndrome, autism, speech impediments, etc. I am also gifted with a natural healing ability which causes my students to automatically relax, which makes for great learning.

I can also help with accent reduction. I am one of the few people in the world gifted with all speech sounds.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have a lot of experience as an aid helping children with their work at this grade level. It's mostly about comprehension of your subjects and taking the time to work one on one for a better understanding. I have a lot of patience and intuition to figure out where you need help and make your learning much more enjoyable along with some tricks I learned when I was a student.

Phonics

I was trained on the Linda Mood Bell system for reading phonics. I utilized this program at San Diego School district with great success. It is a great tool for reading. I had students who increased their reading level from 10wpm to 60wpm. With seven years experience plus my speech degree I am confident I can help you.

Special Needs

I have 7 years experience teaching children with special needs. My expertise lies with reading and phonics. I have incorporated my speech therapy training along with my experience working in a resource center where children came in for my reading services.

ADD/ADHD

I have had 8 years of experience with all spectrum's of special ed. I also have an associate degree in Speech Language Assistant where I not only took child development courses but have training and hands on experience with ADD/ADHD at the San Diego Unified School district.

I am still employed and still in special ed. I help children with their homework, english, history, and science and teach reading skills.

Aspergers

I have extensive experience with children with Aspergers. I have children with Aspergers in the school district in which I work daily. I have been helping them learn through my speech therapy skills and also with all their current studies.

Autism

With my speech therapy training, I have worked with children with autism for many years. I worked in an elementary school for three months with children of all special needs working on their speech goals.

Being that my position has been put on hold because of the budget, I have 8 experience also through San Diego Unified.

Dyslexia

I have done private tutoring with children with dyslexia. At San Diego unified, I taught 6 classes a day of 5 students reading with dyslexia. I am very aware of the issues even though it is not recognized by Doctors. I have helped children with their reading skills as this is where they need help the most.

Speech

I have an AS degree as a Speech Therapy Assistant. There is a client who listed speech but he wants to improve his accent. I am completely proficient in speech, sounds, and have taught the Linda Mood Bell system for the past 10 years. I work with others who need help with their intonation and sounding out words correctly.
