Hello, my future students:
I’m a Chinese/American, born in Shanghai, a big business city of China. I’m a graduate of the Shanghai International Business University there. I worked for the Shanghai East Publishing, Inc., for 10 years as an administrative assistant.
Beside my main work responsibilities, I also tutored students between the ages of 5 to 12 years old to learn Chinese. Some of my students did well enough to enter the key middle schools after they graduated from primary school.
After I immigrated to the USA, I studied at San Diego City College and graduated with an Associate of Science Degree in Office Information Systems/Administrative Assistant. Based on my academic performance, my professor offered me a position as a records management instructional assistant in her class and also introduced me to be a computer instructional assistant in the Independent learning Center. As a volunteer, I also tutored vision-disabled students to learn how to use computers at the Braille Institute in San Diego.
I have been tutoring students to learn Mandarin for many years. I am currently teaching elementary and middle school students between ages of 5 to 12 in three different schools to learn Mandarin. Also, I'm one-on-one tutoring both younger and adult students in San Diego (including University students). I greatly enjoy teaching others Mandarin, the subject on which I prefer to focus.
Whether tutoring students to learn Mandarin or records management, computer software or math in America, my goal is to be a good tutor, one not just transferring my knowledge to students, but also, doing so responsibly. If you choose me to be your tutor, you can be assured that I will diligently check you homework and practice speaking, writing, and reading in Mandarin with you. Before your school exams I’ll prepare you well, emphasizing the relevant textbook areas. I will gladly answer any questions you may have, so don’t hesitate to ask.
Learning a second language, Mandarin, can be very challenging for a new learner. This is because the pronunciation and enunciation of Mandarin is very different from English. Also, after school, it is recommended that you pair-up with another learner and practice. At times, things may seem to be going slow, please don’t let problems discourage you. Nothing is insurmountable. I believe that you can be successful if you really want to learn.
I will be your personal guide as you learn Mandarin speech, reading and writing. I will also correct your pronunciation. Based on your textbook, I will practice with you very often. I will dialog/converse with you in Mandarin. If we have more time, I also want to tell you about Chinese culture and Chinese songs. Through my tutoring, I want your Chinese speech, reading, writing and conversation to be an enjoyable experience for you.
