Hello everyone,
I would first and foremost like to thank you for considering me as a possible candidate. I would have never created this account if I had felt that I was unable to do the job well and to be able to meet the standards of being a tutor. Being a tutor is definitely not easy and requires a lot of patience and perseverance. On that note, we must remember that change does not happen overnight and that it takes time to improve. My philosophy is that we get better through practice. People say this all the time, but they don't always follow through with it. I am always open to new ideas and ways to better improve my teaching methods. I truly believe that with practice, comes success. I cannot stress this enough.
My experience in tutoring started at a very young age, while I was in elementary school in San Bruno. My classmates and friends would ask me for help on a wide variety of topics and I would never refuse. I would always make time to help them regardless of what was going on around me. It made me feel quite content knowing that what I did to help them out, was enough to make them feel good about their work and that's what I strive for when I tutor.
It wasn't until I graduated from high school that I realized the true potential of becoming a tutor. I soon became a reading tutor at the local elementary school for the majority of the 2009 academic school year. I helped students at the 2nd grade level improve their reading skills and increase their vocabulary, as well as their confidence in the area.
After a fairly busy year at American River College in Sacramento, tutoring eventually became a way of life. I began tutoring a student in Kindergarten, which soon led to other tutoring opportunities with students ranging from ages 5-13. I was fortunate enough to have been given the opportunity to live with a family of one of the student's I tutored in Sacramento in exchange for providing tutoring lessons.
My longest running experience in tutoring started in January 2011, when I started tutoring a 6th grade student in the Mission District of San Francisco. I currently tutor her and she is now in 8th grade. I also began tutoring a student in the 3rd grade starting last month.
I tutor students anywhere from the age of 4 until adulthood in the general subject areas. Although I do not tutor in Physics and Calculus, simply because I don't feel that I am qualified to do so. Thank you for reading and good luck!
