French:
During my undergraduate studies, I double majored in Voice Performance and French. I studied abroad in Avignon at the Conservatoire du Grand Avignon and at the Institute for American Universities (IAU). Since then, I have tutored French students privately and used my expertise in French music to mentor young singers in French diction, translation, and repertoire. My accolades include the French Cultural Counselor's Award, IAU Student Ambassador, membership in Phi Beta Kappa, and graduation with departmental honors in French.
I tutor children and adults at the beginner and intermediate levels. With children, I use picture associations, songs, and games to teach the basics, such as numbers, colors, and greetings. With more advanced students, I use a combination of writing, reading, and conversation. The lessons often begin with a textbook chapter or a worksheet, and end with direct application of that topic in conversation exercises. My teaching style is energetic, enthusiastic, and positive.
Voice lessons:
I am a classical soprano with a Master of Music degree from Duquesne University. I have attended numerous training programs, including the Bel Canto Institute, the Atlantic Coast Opera Festival, the American Opera Studio, Duquesne University’s Lirica Roma, and the Opera Academy of California. My opera performance credits include Rosine (Signor Deluso), Leonora (The Beautiful Bridegroom), Miss Silverpeal (The Impresario), Rosalinda (Die Fledermaus), First Tourière (Suor Angelica), Amy (Little Women), Nella (Gianni Schicchi), and Carmela (La Llorona).
I have had success with children and adult students, as well as students of diverse musical backgrounds--pop, jazz, techno, rock, you name it! Some of my students have pursued music careers and gone on to university programs.
As a voice teacher, I pride myself on building healthy voices and confident individuals. I focus on the student as an individual with a unique voice and unique needs. I use body awareness and anatomy to address her particular struggles. My goal is to build on the student's talents and to discover the most beautiful colors in her voice. Lessons are always positive and encouraging.
