My name is Meagan and I have been tutoring and/or teaching in some capacity for the last four years. I've had two jobs that have had a strong impact on me. One of my favorite jobs was as a reading tutor for Sullivan Learning Systems where I worked with students one-on-one and am proud to say that one of my eighth grade students who was at a sixth grade reading level when I started tutoring him rose to a ninth grade reading level by the time we finished our seven weeks of scheduled tutoring time. I was happy to see him improve so greatly just based on the reading we did during tutoring time, the vocabulary words we talked about and looked up the meanings to in a dictionary, the short paragraphs I had him write about what we read, and the reading I gave him to finish at home.
My other favorite job was working as a tutor for Breakthrough Sacramento where I went to a school once a week and tutored seventh and eighth grade students in writing and math. I greatly enjoyed my time teaching them about different types of poetry. For example, I loved teaching students what goes into a limerick, having them write their own limericks, and then having students share their limericks with the class.
So, if you ever need any help with writing, math, science, and especially reading and reading comprehension; I would love to help you.
I am qualified to tutor in Elementary (K-6th) because I have my B.A. in Liberal Studies and have been taking classes in how to teach elementary school students for the last five and a half years. I have also volunteered as a classroom aide for fifth and second grade classrooms where I worked with students one-on-one and in small groups doing math and reading assignments.
I am qualified to tutor in painting because I have been painting for over ten years; have painted two murals, one for a private residence and one for a school; and have received my minor in Art Education from Sacramento State University.
I've worked as a one-on-one reading tutor for Sullivan Learning Systems, a writing and math after school tutor for Breakthrough Sacramento, and a reading and math tutor for Brain Hurricane. I've also got my B.A. in Liberal Studies from Sacramento State University and have had training in a variety of teaching techniques and strategies.
Excellent reading tutor for my kids — Meagan does a great job of keeping my girls focused. She is calm and firm, but playful. Upon my request she will create games that target specific needs (this month it's decoding bigger words by breaking them into the prefix like "con, dis, un, pre" then a root word, and a suffix like able, ible, tion). My girls are doing great now, and when they come across words in 3rd and 4th grade chapter book ...
