I grew up in Hawaii and remained there into my childhood before moving to Pennsylvania where I began attending Penn State University. I have just recently moved to the San Jose area and am now looking to continue my college education as well as supplement it with a tutoring position.

I am currently a major in Chemistry. I have had a strong math background for as long as I can remember. My strengths with science stem from the fact that I find it interesting and try to constantly learn more about areas like biology and chemistry. So far, I have scored top grades in all my math courses up to Calculus II and have placed in the 97th percentile on the American Chemical Society (ACS) Exam.

My tutoring experience exists on a volunteer-only basis. I have never been paid to tutor. However, I have assisted both elementary, high school, and college students alike with whatever academic issues they have encountered. I can appreciate when a subject does not come easily to a student and can gather as much patience necessary to walk that student through their struggle so long as the student remain open-minded and teachable.

I would love to help any student or their parents in trying to succeed in their schooling journey.

Thank you,
Meghan S.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have tutored children in this age range before, both when I was in elementary school and after as a volunteer. I worked at Kaimuki Christian School tutoring remedial math and English. I was also a teacher's assistant for kindergarteners, first-graders, and second-graders. I am well versed in the subject matter bound to turn up, especially in the math and science arenas. I would develop a tutoring method on an individual basis while remembering to keep fun incorporated in the mix. Also, as a child, the best way I learned certain subject matter was through repetition. That will be a main focus.
