So, where do I begin? It will be very hard to sum up all of my thoughts about her amazing abilities as a tutor. I will do my best. Patti has been working only a few short weeks with my 6 year old son. He was having trouble with his reading fluency, so we decided to hire a professional tutor. I am SO thankful that I found her on WyzAnt and that she was able to open up her busy schedule to help my son. He adores her already, only after 2 sessions. I can see the confidence building in him and it is heartwarming to see his face light up as he talks about his accomplishments.
Patti is very detailed in planning and executing her lessons. She is particularly methodical and organized in her planning, delivery and evaluation. I am a public high school teacher and in my 20 years of teaching, I have never seen anyone quite like her. I am still taking in how amazing she is.
On a personal note, she might be the best writer I have ever read. It actually makes me want to try to improve my own writing as it pales in comparison to her perfectly written words.
I am crossing my fingers that we can continue working with her as long as her schedule permits. I am grateful beyond words. Patti S is a treasure, truly one of a kind, and anyone should consider themselves lucky if they can obtain her services.

Oh my goodness, Teresa!! Thank you kindly for taking the time out of your very busy schedule, to extend such glowing comments about my work with your son thus far. I appreciate the attention to detail you have, in recognizing the planning I put into properly designing and executing my lessons, to tailor specifically to your son. It means so much to me to hear those comments from you, as a well experienced teacher of 20 years. What a true honor to have your praises about my lessons, as well as about my writing skills. I do have a passion for writing, and an obsession with words, and I thoroughly enjoy sharing that love with anyone who will listen, as writing is the gateway to success in most regards!! Excellence in literacy is highly overlooked in many instances, and it makes me hopeful to fill that gap with one student at a time!!
I am indeed more than willing to "flip my schedule upside down" to work with the three of you, as I have seen nothing but involvement, interest, and dedication in support of my efforts, with your sincere follow up after each of my lessons. I truly believe in a team philosophy when working to help a child succeed, and my work cannot be of any value if it is not supported and followed up with the child at home. I am grateful for your support, and I truly look forward to watching your son journey his way to success in reading!! I hope that your feedback, and my response, will help to attract parents that are excited to join me in creating a team to help their child be as successful as possible!! That's my ultimate goal.

My daughter has been working with Patti for months now and we couldn't have found a better person for her. Patti is very understanding, patient and helps my daughter to see the success that can be achieved through hard work. Not only does Patti get involved with my daughter during the sessions but she provides great updates and is working hard with my daughter's teacher to make sure she gets all the help she can get. My daughter and I love Patti and we don't know where she would be without her!
"The most organized way of teaching writing"
Meera from Sacramento, CA on 10/7/13
Patty S. started tutoring my eight year old son from the end of August, 2013. When she started, my kid hardly wrote a paragraph. He did not know where to start and what to write. He did not know how to formulate his ideas into words, sentences and then paragraphs. Patty worked with him one word at a time. Organization is her strength. She is organized in her thinking, teaching, scheduling her class, writing her report and checking the assignments. She is a thorough professional in this field. She lays foundation by teaching the kid to choose a topic sentence for the subject matter and encouraging them to formulate 3-5 supporting facts, connect them together with conjunctions and finally wrap it up with a conclusion sentence. Having learned the structure of a paragraph, the kids are then encouraged by Patty, to added meat to the skeleton! She teaches them adjectives by urging them to make a list for each of the five senses of smell, taste, sound, sight and touch. Once kids learns adjectives, she gently urges them to select unique words. She teaches them to revise, edit and check for spelling and grammatical mistakes. Without revealing anymore of her unique techniques, I only like to add that she does all these things, by making the kid feel special and not overwhelmed. I am extremely happy with her, and would continue to engage her for my older son as long as her rates stay affordable. And will do the same with my younger son when he is ready!

Hello Meera! First and foremost, I must extend my gratitude to you for taking such a lengthy amount of time out of your busy schedule, to write such a detailed and positive response about my work with your son. I know firsthand, how dedicated you are to your family, as well as your career, so I am delighted that you were willing to provide some feedback about our experience together thus far!
I could not be more proud of your son, and how much progress he has made in simply learning to enjoy the art of writing. I am touched by how passionate he seems, in such opposition of his original disdain for writing, as he so willingly continues his stories, by reading his creations to me, as they unfold in his imagination each week that we meet. He truly has me on the edge of my seat as I await his next adventure!!
With regard to your thoughtful comments, I am most pleased that you notice the organization with which I direct my lessons, and that you recognize my methodology, in creating stepping stones for your son to work with, as we work toward his ability to learn to recall these methods on his own, as he matures, and learns that through self evaluation and progress, he will be able to transition from my guidance in writing, to his own choices, as he uses the skills we have so diligently focused on together.
Last but not least, Meera, I want to thank you and your husband, in return, for being such supportive parents, and always working with me, as a team, to continue to make your son a better writer. I am pleased to know that you are there to help follow up on the work that I do during our weekly one hour session, so that we can continue working toward making him successful. Please extend my pride and gratitude to him, for all the hard work and attention he has given to me, and let him know that I am so pleased to be able to witness his journey in writing success!! Lucky me!
"Great tutor but you'll need to be very clear about her expectations"
Denise from Fair Oaks, CA on 7/19/13
We have a mixed review. We hired Patti with the idea of a long-term tutoring arrangement. Patti's skills at building rapport and working with and getting results from the student are outstanding, however, she has some fairly rigid expectations for homework and parental involvement. Due to our personal circumstances (death in the immediate family), we had some trouble living up to her expectations. Homework she assigned was not 100% complete. Although we were pleased with the progress she was making with our son and ready to commit to a long-term arrangement, she was not satisfied. She informed us after 7 lessons that we were not committed enough and hence she needed to discontinue lessons. What a shame! Our son was totally engaged in the sessions and liked her very much. We were committed enough to be paying for 2 1/2 hours per week and had expected she could be patient considering our circumstances. Our son enjoyed the sessions and we had communicated our desire to continue with tutoring after school started. Patti has really excellent skills, is a lovely person, and we gave her 5 star ratings without hesitation. We do however suggest you make sure you're aware of and on-board with her expectations or you may end up with a disappointed child.
"Very knowledgeable tutor."
Monika from Sacramento, CA on 5/7/13
She is great with my child. She really knows her stuff, listens very patiently and understands my child's needs very well. She is extremely punctual, has never been late since she started. She has made a strong connection with my child starting from day one. The tutor is doing an excellent job teaching my child exactly what he needs, to the point, and is able to keep my child focused throughout the lesson. I'm extremely happy with her. I would definitely recommend this tutor to someone who is looking for a dedicated person to tutor their child.

As I mentioned before, he is a true delight, and it is honestly my pleasure to work with the both of you toward his journey for success. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to help him meet his goals. He is doing phenomenally well, and I look forward to seeing what more we can accomplish together. It is refreshing to see his love of knowledge and learning, and I thoroughly enjoy sharing that with you both!
