"Very knowledgeable tutor."
Monika from Sacramento, CA on 5/7/13
She is great with my child. She really knows her stuff, listens very patiently and understands my child's needs very well. She is extremely punctual, has never been late since she started. She has made a strong connection with my child starting from day one. The tutor is doing an excellent job teaching my child exactly what he needs, to the point, and is able to keep my child focused throughout the lesson. I'm extremely happy with her. I would definitely recommend this tutor to someone who is looking for a dedicated person to tutor their child.

Thank you kindly for your positive feedback. I truly appreciate you taking the time out of your day to post your thoughts, as I always value what you and your son have to say. As I mentioned before, he is a true delight, and it is honestly my pleasure to work with the both of you toward his journey for success. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to help him meet his goals. He is doing phenomenally well, and I look forward to seeing what more we can accomplish together. It is refreshing to see his love of knowledge and learning, and I thoroughly enjoy sharing that with you both!
"The most organized way of teaching writing"
Meera from Sacramento, CA on 10/7/13
Patty S. started tutoring my eight year old son from the end of August, 2013. When she started, my kid hardly wrote a paragraph. He did not know where to start and what to write. He did not know how to formulate his ideas into words, sentences and then paragraphs. Patty worked with him one word at a time. Organization is her strength. She is organized in her thinking, teaching, scheduling her class, writing her report and checking the assignments. She is a thorough professional in this field. She lays foundation by teaching the kid to choose a topic sentence for the subject matter and encouraging them to formulate 3-5 supporting facts, connect them together with conjunctions and finally wrap it up with a conclusion sentence. Having learned the structure of a paragraph, the kids are then encouraged by Patty, to added meat to the skeleton! She teaches them adjectives by urging them to make a list for each of the five senses of smell, taste, sound, sight and touch. Once kids learns adjectives, she gently urges them to select unique words. She teaches them to revise, edit and check for spelling and grammatical mistakes. Without revealing anymore of her unique techniques, I only like to add that she does all these things, by making the kid feel special and not overwhelmed. I am extremely happy with her, and would continue to engage her for my older son as long as her rates stay affordable. And will do the same with my younger son when he is ready!

Hello Meera! First and foremost, I must extend my gratitude to you for taking such a lengthy amount of time out of your busy schedule, to write such a detailed and positive response about my work with your son. I know firsthand, how dedicated you are to your family, as well as your career, so I am delighted that you were willing to provide some feedback about our experience together thus far!
I could not be more proud of your son, and how much progress he has made in simply learning to enjoy the art of writing. I am touched by how passionate he seems, in such opposition of his original disdain for writing, as he so willingly continues his stories, by reading his creations to me, as they unfold in his imagination each week that we meet. He truly has me on the edge of my seat as I await his next adventure!!
With regard to your thoughtful comments, I am most pleased that you notice the organization with which I direct my lessons, and that you recognize my methodology, in creating stepping stones for your son to work with, as we work toward his ability to learn to recall these methods on his own, as he matures, and learns that through self evaluation and progress, he will be able to transition from my guidance in writing, to his own choices, as he uses the skills we have so diligently focused on together.
Last but not least, Meera, I want to thank you and your husband, in return, for being such supportive parents, and always working with me, as a team, to continue to make your son a better writer. I am pleased to know that you are there to help follow up on the work that I do during our weekly one hour session, so that we can continue working toward making him successful. Please extend my pride and gratitude to him, for all the hard work and attention he has given to me, and let him know that I am so pleased to be able to witness his journey in writing success!! Lucky me!
"Great tutor but you'll need to be very clear about her expectations"
Denise from Fair Oaks, CA on 7/19/13
We have a mixed review. We hired Patti with the idea of a long-term tutoring arrangement. Patti's skills at building rapport and working with and getting results from the student are outstanding, however, she has some fairly rigid expectations for homework and parental involvement. Due to our personal circumstances (death in the immediate family), we had some trouble living up to her expectations. Homework she assigned was not 100% complete. Although we were pleased with the progress she was making with our son and ready to commit to a long-term arrangement, she was not satisfied. She informed us after 7 lessons that we were not committed enough and hence she needed to discontinue lessons. What a shame! Our son was totally engaged in the sessions and liked her very much. We were committed enough to be paying for 2 1/2 hours per week and had expected she could be patient considering our circumstances. Our son enjoyed the sessions and we had communicated our desire to continue with tutoring after school started. Patti has really excellent skills, is a lovely person, and we gave her 5 star ratings without hesitation. We do however suggest you make sure you're aware of and on-board with her expectations or you may end up with a disappointed child.
