Aspergers

During my studies while obtaining a Masters in Education, I did a series of studies on varients of Autism. Asperger's Disorder is a mild divergent form of Autistism. In Asperger's Disorder, affected individuals are characterized by social isolation and eccentric behavior. There tend to be problems with two-sided social interaction and non-verbal communication. Their speech may sound peculiar due to abnormalities of inflection, and may steer towards repetitive patterns, and clumsiness in articulation, as well as motor behavior. They usually focus on an area of interest which usually leaves no room for more age appropriate, common interests. Help for the individual to process the feelings aroused by being socially different are key, and should include behavioral modification, social skills training, and importantly educational support and interface. One on one tutoring with an appropriate, patient, and capable individual is helpful, however coping and maintenance is imperative with support in the family unit and household.

Biology

I have a Masters degree in Biology from Northern Arizona University. I taught Botany at a college level, was involved with and gave presentations at the Arizona-Nevada Academy of Science, as well as worked as Education Coordinator at the Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens.

Botany

I have a Masters degree in Biology from Northern Arizona University. I taught Botany at a college level, was involved with and gave presentations at the Arizona-Nevada Academy of Science, as well as worked as Education Coordinator at the Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens.

Dyslexia

Part of the coursework involved in obtaining my teaching degree included Comparative Education, which focused on educational problems requiring an understanding of the relationship of education to a particular society. One unit included the study of the development of intelligence in children, and I became quite interested in the verbal skills section. I excelled in the course, and found that it augmented my Master's in Biology. While teaching Botany at the University, I came upon a student with severe fluency and comprehension accuracy difficulties. I worked with him throughout the year, and with research and practice, he made measurable progress. I recognized the significance in the time, attention, and patience deserved for individuals with dyslexia, and appreciated the information provided for the disability.

Ecology

I have a Masters degree in Biology from Northern Arizona University. I taught Botany at a college level, was involved with and gave presentations at the Arizona-Nevada Academy of Science, as well as worked as Education Coordinator at the Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens.

Elementary (K-6th)

I took a year of education coursework while acquiring my Masters in Biology. I taught at a University level, as well as tutored and taught individuals from ages 4 to 14.

Microbiology

I have a Masters degree in Biology from Northern Arizona University. I taught Botany at a college level, and was involved with and gave presentations at the Arizona-Nevada Academy of Science. I performed a full course of study in Microbiology while in graduate school, and recently completed the breadth of labs of the Basic Training Manual for VUMicro.

Nutrition

Previous to a Masters in Biology, I acquired a Bachelors in Science, focusing on Living Systems. My education base focused on health, in terms of body and mind, a great deal of which was reflected in nutrition. Life experience in the study of nutrition for self and others has broadened my horizons. I have cared and prepared fresh and frozen meals for individuals (youth and elderly) with a wide range of needs or disabilities, from stroke to cancer and Alzheimer's. I tailor nutritional support for each individual I work with, yet the underlying premise is realistic health and a positive attitude with what goes in to our bodies, and the care in which we view our gastronomic needs.

Special Needs

I am currently working on a cookbook for children, and involved in tutoring and motivating for test preparation and study skills. My current student has shown a large improvement with his studies, and his family has noticed a positive change in his study skills. His test scores went up at least 15% in one semester.
