Howdy.

I'm a grad student at CSUS with lots of experience in the performing arts. I choreograph musicals and translate Japanese film, anime, music, and books professionally. I also have professional experience with theatrical costuming. I also adore math. I used to tutor privately, loved it, and ma happy to get into it again.

In my spare time, I enjoy listening to music, cooking, eating, reading, writing, dancing, walking, and playing with cats.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I believe that algebra should be understood on a theoretical and practical level and applied to real life. Instead of just memorizing formulas and "how to do it", my students play with fraction tiles, recipes, and real life problems that interest them (such as "if my allowance is $5 per week and the iPod I want is $120, how many weeks will I have to wait before I can afford it?")

Japanese

I fell in love with the Japanese language and culture when I was in high school. I spent a year there just after high school, then furthered my education in college. Since the year 2000 I have been translating Japanese-English freelance, most notably working for companies such as Discotek Media and Winward, ltd.

Public Speaking

I have a BA in Theatre Arts (dance) from Sacramento State University and have performed speaking roles in three productions there as well as provided recorded voiceover work for a dance piece. I have taken IPA classes and can help with diction and breath control.

Fabulous Tutor! — Sarah was able to help my 10 year old daughter get ready for an audition and with very short notice. She was able to make my daughter understand easily what was needed for her to improve, she helped her practice using her unique techniques, and my daughter responded very well to Sarah's style and approach. Sarah was very knowledgeable, friendly, and extremely patient. ...
