As a lifelong student of history and the social sciences, I feel it is vitally important to lend the knowledge that I have learned in my schooling and travels and pass that baton along to the next generation of students. My goal in teaching is to provide students with a framework on how to excel in both high-school and university environments, particularly in regard to studies within the field of history.
Having recently completed the history/pre-credential degree program at Cal Poly Pomona, I am currently in the process of graduating and continuing my pursuit towards earning a teaching credential for the State of California. I fully intend on becoming a full-time high school teacher in the near future. Additionally, I have also passed the CBEST exam which qualifies me for proficiency as a substitute teacher in California. While my emphasis of study lies with the history of the United States and the American west, I am also familiar with other branches of history that students may encounter in their studies. This includes the histories of the ancient world, Europe, Asia/India. In addition to assisting in textbook history review and homework, I am also a proficient writer, able to instruct students on the scholarly methods of writing for the field of history and social science. Topics such as streamlining research, finding sources, forming a strong thesis, building a concise and compelling narrative structure, and utilizing proper citation are all part of my forte. I feel that these skills are essential for students to learn early on, especially if they harbor interest in pursuing history at the undergraduate level and beyond.
At the heart of it, my passion lies in demonstrating to students new perspectives in history. This is something I wish someone had taught me when I was first introduced to the subject.
I want nothing more than to guarantee complete satisfaction and if students or parents are not completely happy with my instruction or methods, they will not be charged for the session. It is my opinion that customer service is king, and if the customers are not satisfied with my services, then neither am I.
I am very flexible with instruction times, but I primarily prefer to meet in the afternoon Monday through Friday or mornings on weekends. In regard to meeting spaces, I am fully able to travel to any convenient locations a student or parent may designate.
If a cancellation arises, I request that students notify me at least two hours before a session, unless it is an emergency.

I have worked extensively in the field of graphic design and photography and have used Adobe Photoshop on a near-daily basis. I am intimately familiar with a majority of the tools and have been a user of Photoshop since version 5.0 up to the current version. Skills include color correction of photos, photo manipulation, image compositing, and composition of original content. I am able to help with individual projects or simply teach students the ins and outs of how the application functions.
As a history major in college, I placed a great deal of emphasis and interest in the study of American History, particularly in the realm of the American West during the Westward Expansion. My undergraduate thesis dissertation addressed the fundamental environmental and ideological conflicts involved during the American Westward Expansion and how the desire for land conservation ultimately played a part in the formation of the US National Park system. In addition, I am familiar with American History during the Revolutionary period, the American Civil War, California History, and Post-War America during the second half of the 20th century.

I am well-versed in general writing style and can offer students assistance in crafting coherent and concise research papers. Additionally, as a historian, I am required to read and interpret a wide variety of literary texts, a skill that carries over to studies in English and reading comprehension.
Having grown up around computers, I am very comfortable with most everything concerning general computing within Microsoft Windows. I can assist in setting up a computer, teach you how to use and navigate the operating system, and how to run software and applications. Software suites I am familiar with include Microsoft Office and the Adobe Creative Suite family of applications.

While I may not have been a geography major, being intimately familiar with a globe and map is an essential part of being a history scholar. I can express a functional knowledge of both physical and cultural geography in varied regions of the world.
Though I was a history major in college, reading and reading comprehension was integral to success as a scholar of history. In my studies, I have examined and critically analyzed a great number of both contemporary and historical literary texts from many time periods, affording me with the skills to distill the fundamental meaning from passages of text effectively. While my focus as a history major was not in world history, I nevertheless received training in various topics concerning world history. This particular topic is much more vast and expansive than any singular narrow-focused topic in history, but I am capable of re-familiarizing myself with the subject matter at hand very quickly.
