English...what a language! The whole world is learning it so they can all speak to us Americans. So we should know what to say and how to say it better than anyone else. After all, it's our language (even though the British got it all started).

Throughout my entire education I've had the strictest English teachers you can imagine, from the nuns who taught me in grammar school to my professors when I earned my Master's in Education. However, this did not dissuade me from the study of English; rather, I embraced it. Indeed, I ended up teaching it on the high school level. Even today I keep dictionaries throughout the house so that any new word that arises from a book, magazine or newspaper will be immediately added to my ever-expanding vocabulary.

I thoroughly enjoy passing on my solid foundation in English to a generation being bombarded by grammatical and spelling errors and inappropriate punctuation, while at the same time finding itself trapped in the abbreviations of cyber communications. My tutoring of my three children helped them become highly proficient in English, leading to two very successful careers (an attorney and an international marketer) and a current student at Harvard.

My enthusiastic tutoring approach involves thoroughness and patience mixed with my sincere desire to instill a deep appreciation of the power of the English language. I challenge my students to raise their expectations, knowing full well that higher self-esteem, confidence and opportunity await them. I want them eventually to join me in exclaiming, "English...what a language!"

I am a WyzAnt certified ESL/ESOL tutor. My strong command of English is combined with a deep sensitivity toward the English language learner. My experience has taught me to assess quickly the students' capabilities and to tailor my presentations to the individuals' needs. I continually evaluate student progress and set a corresponding pace.
I want my students to realize that I enjoy seeing them constantly improving their ability to read, write and speak English.

Hi! My name is Ray and I am a trained public speaker. I also spent 7 years in the ministry, speaking from the pulpit on a weekly basis. I have a Master's in Education and have spent many years teaching in front of the classroom - another important form of public speaking that requires a great deal of thinking on your feet.
