In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I completed the accounting program at Contra Costa College. I also participated in an MBA program in Accounting and Financial Reporting.
While the academic training I received was a good foundation, I feel that my many years on the job actually "doing the books" for small to medium sized businesses was the best education.
I have a lifetime credential from the State of California in elementary teaching. I taught K-6th for six years in California public schools as a substitute teacher. I taught 7th grade for five years full-time so that I know what is expected at that level.
My own education includes a BA from the University of Chicago (Phi Beta Kappa and Honors), an MA from UC Berkeley and courses from Stanford University. I also worked on an MBA at Edgewood College in Madison WI.
My most recent teaching experience was for three years as a reading tutor (volunteer).
I have used QuickBooks on a daily basis as a staff accountant for the last 12 years. I have trained others in the use of QuickBooks. I have used QuickBooks on both a PC and a Mac. I have used the program both for for-profit and non-profit organizations. The most recent version of QB that I used was QuickBooks Enterprise 2012.
I am a trained teacher (UC Berkeley) and hold lifetime credentials in both elementary and secondary teaching. I was a very successful student at three of the top universities in the US (The University of Chicago, UC Berkeley and Stanford University).
As a top student I learned how to study and do academic research. During my teacher training I took specific courses in study skills.
As a public school teacher for over 13 years I worked with my students to achieve excellent study skills.
