I have my BA from Azusa Pacific University in Human Development (liberal studies). I minored in math with the hopes of becoming a math teacher. I have tutored most levels of math at Riverside Community College and also done private tutoring for Jr High school. I currently home school my 2nd and 6th graders, one of whom has ADHD and Aspergers. I have also worked with special needs children from preschool through 8th grade. If you are looking for an understanding and patient tutor, than stop looking! My greatest joy comes from seeing the look on someone's face when they finally grasp a difficult concept and it suddenly all makes sense.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

My daughter has ADHD so I have done research on the disorder. I have learned tricks to help with focus and different teaching methods to keep the child engaged. Children with ADHD need to learn coping skills so they can function in school and in life. I try to teach them to use manipulatives when ever possible; this helps keep them focused on the task at hand.

Aspergers

My daughter was diagnosed with Aspergers 4 years ago and I have been learning as much as I can about it since. I attend a group that teaches parents how the "Aspie" mind works and how to use certain words and examples to explain things in a way they can understand. You have to be very careful when choosing certain words to use because they are extremely literal and can take something you say and interpret it completely wrong. The best thing you can teach someone with Aspergers is to try and think outside the box.

CBEST

I have taken the CBEST and passed. I took the test in order to become a substitute teacher. I was required to take and pass the CBEST because I did not have my BA at that point. I was working towards my BA and the requirement for substitute teaching was either a Bachelor's degree, or working towards a Bachelor's degree and passing the CBEST. I now have my BA from Azusa Pacific University in Human Development (liberal studies).

Elementary (K-6th)

I have my BA in Human Development, the new Liberal Studies degree, which is geared towards elementary education. I have taken many classes pertaining to teaching students from preschool through high school. I have worked as a substitute teacher focusing on the elementary level, and I home-school my 2 children and have taught each grade level K-6.
