Hello! I have spent the last 15 years teaching middle school English and History. However, I have also spent some time teaching English to university students in China, and international students at the UCR extension. In addition, I am the mother of a kindergartener, so working with young children is also something I enjoy. I love teaching, and working with individual students on a one-to-one basis.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ESL/ESOL

I have experience teaching English as a second language to international students at the university level, as well as middle school. I can help with reading, writing, listening, and speaking. My favorite is conversation. :)

Reading

Reading involves many different levels of decoding. With young children I use a lot of games to build vocabulary, phonics activities to help associate letters with sounds, and age-appropriate activities and books to build fluency. Older students benefit from reading comprehension and vocabulary games, and activities that promote a love for reading.

Writing

In writing I include many activities to promote fluency and confidence using the written word. Depending on the student level, we may work on sentence structure and grammar, or tone and purpose. My goal is all activities is to provide you with a comfortable, safe, and enjoyable learning experience.
