Hello! I am a UCSD graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Biology, and I recently graduated from USC with my Masters degree in Global Medicine. As an undergraduate at UCSD, I worked as a teaching assistant for lower division biology classes and also tutored different math subjects. I have tutored students in math and science at all grade levels: elementary, middle school, high school and college. I have over eight years of tutoring experience and I am passionate about sharing my knowledge with students.
I truly enjoy tutoring students of all ages and I always try to maximize students' learning potential by highlighting their strengths and improving their weaknesses. If necessary I will provide students with extra material to supplement their learning, while providing the support and encouragement they need for academic success.
I have many years of experience tutoring Algebra and believe that a mastery of this subject is essential for future success in math. I enjoy working with students at this math level because it is rewarding for me to see improvements in their grades and pertinent to set a strong foundation in the concepts that will be utilized later in their academic ventures.
Algebra 2 is one of the math subjects that I have the most experience tutoring. I found that breaking down difficult concepts using a step by step approach provides students with the understanding and confidence necessary to apply their newfound knowledge to more challenging questions. Because Algebra 2 involves concepts that require knowledge from previous math classes, I ensure that students have a strong background in those more basic concepts before tackling more complex concepts.
As a graduate from UCSD with a degree in Human Biology, one of my main passions is tutoring students on the many fascinating aspects of biology. As a recent graduate from USC with a Masters degree in Global Medicine, I was required to take biology classes at the medical school level where I performed at the top of my class in each course. Therefore, I have a very strong background in biology and enjoy helping students discover the intriguing workings of the world of science!
The key to tutoring elementary math is to be patient and encouraging. I try to engage students and make the concepts interesting by giving real life examples.
After tutoring all math subjects from pre-algebra to calculus I have noticed that most students struggle because they did not understand a certain concept the first time or it was not taught properly. Therefore, the next lesson they are given in that subject seems even more challenging. I will help you understand the concepts that you are struggling with and catch you up so that you can excel in your geometry class.
Although every student has specific study needs, the study habits that he or she gains now will last a lifetime. In order to help make schoolwork feel manageable, I believe that it is important to build on the things that each student already does well, and consistently practice new habits until they become second nature. Before I became a Teaching Assistant for college biology at UCSD, I was required to complete a course that trained me on how to identify the type of learner that a student is and recommend the best study techniques for his or her individual learning needs. Also, my experience as a note-taker at UCSD significantly improved my note-taking skills and that experience has given me several strategies that I can pass along to my students. Whether a student needs help creating a study routine, taking effective notes, becoming an independent learner, or getting organized, I can help instill the necessary tools to succeed at any grade level.
Exactly what I was looking for in a tutor for my son! — After trying several approaches, Suzanne made a positive impact with my son and his studies within the very first sessions. She is organized, focused, and very positive when working with him. She knows how to ask all the right questions, but also listens openly and engages him in decisions around his studies. He has even commented, "She doesn't just make sure the worksheets are completed, she revi ...
