All of Andrew’s current tutoring subjects are listed at the left. You can read more about Andrew’s qualifications in specific subjects below.

Algebra 1

Algebra (I) topics I tutor include numbers systems, number sets, arithmetic operators, scientific notation, inequalities, compound inequalities, linear equations in one variable, absolute value, graphing on the real number line, the Cartesian coordinate system, graphing linear equations, systems of two equations, exponents(powers), roots(radicals), polynomials, quadratics, and word problems.

Algebra 2

Algebra (II) topics I tutor include polynomials, factoring polynomials, polynomial division, quadratic equations in one variable, inequalities in two variables, systems of three equations, matrices, logarithms, sequences and series, discrete functions, and complex numbers.

C

I tutor basic C programming. I learned C programming at UCSD taking MAE9 which is C programming for scientists and engineers. I also used C programming to process data during a 6 month theoretical astrophysics research project. I have ready-to-go C programming problem sets for students to work through to learn the basics of C.

Differential Equations

I have experience using differential equations and partial differential equations to solve undergraduate problems in computational and thermal physics. If you have a question about differential equations or partial differential equations, I am positive I can show you how to solve it.

Geometry

Geometry topics I tutor include polygons, plane geometry, solid geometry, and high-dimensional solids.

Linear Algebra

I have experience using linear algebra to solve problems as small as simple sets of equations and as complex as problems in undergraduate quantum mechanics at UCSD. If you have a question about linear algebra, I am positive I can show you how to solve it.

Linux

I have been using Linux for about three years as the default operating system on a dual boot computer. I have experience with a handful of flavors including ubuntu, mandriva, and debian. I am familiar with common operations and advanced system settings. I am also familiar with many command line functions as well as how to manually install programs that are not prepackaged .rpm or .deb files.

Microsoft Windows

I have been using Windows since Windows 95. I currently use Windows XP on a dual boot computer next to Linux. I am familiar with everything from installation of Windows to everyday operations, as well as more advanced tasks such as editing the registry.

Physics

I tutor high school (AP) and college level physics. High school level topics I tutor include kinematics, fluid mechanics, electrostatics, thermodynamics, and wave motion. College level topics I tutor include astrophysics, classical mechanics, electrodynamics, quantum mechanics, special relativity, statistical mechanics, optics, and wave phenomena.

Prealgebra

Prealgebra topics I tutor include basic operations, whole numbers, integers, rational numbers, decimals, fractions, percents, measurements, perimeter, area, squares, cubes, and variables.

Precalculus

Precalculus topics I tutor include functions, exponential functions, logarithmic functions, function manipulation (shifting, stretching, and reflections), polynomial functions, rational functions, polar coordinates, complex numbers, and conic sections.

Trigonometry

Trigonometry topics I tutor include cosine, sine, tangent, law of sines, law of cosines, double-angle formulas, half-angle formulas, trigonometric addition formulas, secant, cosecant, and cotangent.

Approved Subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet certified in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
