Hi! My name is Shawna and I am going to tell you a little bit about myself. First of all, I will mention that I was home schooled for the first eleven years of my life. While being home schooled gave me the chance to develop some great study skills and self-discipline, it was when I went to public high school for my senior year that I first fell in love with learning. I had some pretty great teachers that year. Teachers who treated me like a real person with real thoughts and opinions. From those teachers I learned passion and respect that I hope to pass on to every student I tutor. After high school, I spent five years in college, graduating with a double degree in English Literature and History, as well as a third major in French. Yes, I did triple major in college! It may sound silly, but the truth is I just really enjoyed learning and I especially enjoyed those particular subjects. It was during college that I tutored with a program called America Reads. We went to elementary schools and tutored third through fifth grade kids in English and Math. As for my teaching style, I like to make learning as fun and as positive an experience as possible. Games, puzzles, prizes, interaction, and most of all, large doses of constant encouragement are the tools in my tutoring toolbag.
