I taught multiple-subject high school level Independent Studies for years. I am also a former educational consultant. I use a question-centered approach, with the student asking most of the questions. I am a deep listener. I usually zero in pretty quickly on any blockages to student mastery of concepts, then prescribe approaches that 'feel right' to the student to learn the material.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Study Skills

From the University of California, Berkeley, I earned a Master's Degree in Language and Literacy Education and a Reading Specialist Credential. I taught Independent Studies for high school students full-time for seven years and am considered NCLB "highly qualified" in all academic content areas for high school. This background should prove sufficient for me to qualify to teach study skills, having successfully navigated through post-graduate level study challenges, including a major 'thesis seminar paper' involving considerable study. Thank you.
