Hi, I'm Mr. G.
I hold a California Teaching Credential, am a member of the National Science Teachers Association, and have over 11 years of teaching experience, spanning Math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra I and II, Earth Science, Life Science, Physical Science, English grammar and writing. My credential allows me to teach K-12 students and adults.
I have always been a very good student, but it didn't always come easily. In some subjects I struggled more than in others, but as I overcame obstacles, I was able to help fellow students with their difficulties. I think by nature I am a problem solver, so it was great fun to see others succeed and to help them overcome challenges! My former struggles have become assets as a teacher because I know where students can sometimes falter. In order to succeed, I became familiar with study skill strategies and techniques that I use in my teaching.
I did so well academically in grade school and high school that I secured various scholarships that gave me the opportunity to study at the college of my choice, a private college, which was, and still is, one of the best top ten colleges in the country. Coming from a low-income family, there is no way I could have afforded college without those scholarships. I credit my God, my teachers, my hard work and dedication, and the support of my family, for my academic success.
Although college was challenging, I managed my time so well that I was able to have fun, too. In addition to earning my degree in Government, I was also able to earn a black belt in Aikido and make some wonderful friendships.
After graduating from college, I decided that I wanted to give back to the community to share what I had learned. I became a full-time teacher while beginning a credential program at CSUN. I also took various teaching in-services through the Eisenhower program to improve my capacity to teach middle school science, which was and is an in-demand area. I visited volcanoes and collected fossils and minerals throughout California on field trips with students. I even had the privilege to attend workshops at places like NASA's Dryden Space Center and the Exploratorium to the north.
After a time, I felt God was calling me to become a missionary to work with the poorest of the poor, first with the homeless and drug addicted in Tampa, Florida, then with the poor in South America, where I lived and studied for 6 years.
I am fluent in Spanish and have taught middle school students in private schools in the Los Angeles area for over 11 years. I am in the process of starting my own real estate investment company so I cannot teach full time, but I am eager to work with you, to help you discover your weaknesses and help you overcome them, making you the very best student that you can be! I'm looking forward to meeting and working with you!
