I am a recently graduated doctor of philosophy living in the Fresno area. I have taught college level classes and tutored K-12 students professionally. Statistics is a specialty of mine, along with most elementary and middle school level math. I am also a strong teacher of English composition and reading comprehension. I have over 13 years experience working as a therapist with children, adolescents, and adults. I bring a professional, supportive, and encouraging manner to my tutoring and teaching. I believe that no real learning comes from the teacher alone, but that the best teachers find ways to help students grow to become accomplished learners.

ADD/ADHD

I have worked as a licensed professional with children in therapeutic settings for 10 years. A large number of these children have demonstrated symptoms of ADD/ADHD, and many have had this diagnosis. I am interested in finding effective and healthy approaches to supporting the learning of children identified with these features using affirmative and positive methods. I know from first-hand experience and the findings of empirically researched studies that such children can learn with effective support from others, and can even learn to excel academically.

Aspergers

I am a trained doctor of psychology who has studied autism spectrum disorders during the course of my training. I have worked therapeutically with children diagnosed with Aspergers, and have an understanding for the needs of this population and the best practices for working with them. I believe I am particularly suited to aid and support children and adults diagnosed with Aspergers to more rapidly achieve their academic goals.

Bible Studies

I have studied the Bible since childhood, and studied the Bible as literature and guidebook as part of my undergraduate bachelor's degree at a religious institution of higher learning. I have attended Sunday School throughout my life, and have taught Sunday School and led Bible studies periodically during my later adult years. I do not adopt a specific deonominational or credal approach in teaching the Bible, but instead approach it from a scholarly perspective to present the truths found there while remaining informed by my own sense of inspiration and the spiritual sense passed down to me as an inheritor of a multi-generational family scripturally-based legacy.

Ear Training

I have studied classical music from the age of 7 and earned a minor in classical music during my undergraduate bachelor's program. I performed in a variety of school, community, and honors symphonia over the course of a 15 year period. Additionally, I performed in a variety of other musical modalities, including chamber music and a classical quartet. I also played Dixieland jazz, and was a founding member of a world music band that emphasized traditional folk music forms, traveling and performing professionally for 10 years. Throughout this time, I also participated in a variety of session music jams which honed my skill at picking up tunes and songs through listening alone. I enjoy teaching musicians of all ages, and take an interest in teaching them to learn by ear as much as by written musical notation.

Elementary (K-6th)

In addition to my years of college experience, the degrees I have earned, and the classes I have taught, I have professional experience tutoring very young children and adolescents up to the 9th grade. I have helped these children to earn exceptional grades. I am confident I can help your child to learn the skills that will produce excellent achievement in school.

GED

I have taught adults in both college and non-college settings to qualify for credentialing and have been approved by WyzAnt to provide GED tutoring.

Music History

I have studied classical music from the age of 7 years, and studied music history as part of my undergraduate bachelor's degree, earning a minor in classical music. I enjoy teaching musicians of all ages, and take a special interest in history related to music.

Phonics

In addition to my years of college experience and the degrees I have earned, I possess a natural facility for verbal learning and performance that has been objectively tested at a level surpassing 19 out of 20 persons in the general population. I have supported very young children to learn to articulate and spell complex words using sounding-out methods, and I am confident I can bring this skill to assist your child.

Public Speaking

My public speaking experience includes multiple academic presentations in which I spoke before audiences of my peers on the topic of studies I had conducted. I have also spoken to groups of citizens to present results of surveys on behalf of the chamber of commerce and other civic entities. I am a fully trained college level instructor, and have taught classes to college level students.

Religion

I have attended religious services and educational activities regularly since childhood, and studied the Bible as literature and world religions as part of my undergraduate bachelor's degree at a religious institution of higher learning. I have also taught Sunday School and led Bible studies periodically during my later adult years. I do not adopt a specific deonominational or credal approach in teaching about religion, but instead approach such educational opportunities from a scholarly perspective, presenting the universal truths found there while remaining informed by my own sense of inspiration and the spiritual sense passed down to me as an inheritor of a multi-generational family religious tradition.

Social Studies

I have had multiple college level courses on social studies during my undergraduate and graduate educations. I have also studied social psychology in pursuit of both my masters of education and my doctorate. I earned top grades in these pursuits and consider myself well qualified to tutor in matters related to the study of both contemporary and historic social dynamics.

Sociology

I was instructed by a doctor of sociology during my undergraduate course of studies. I understand the means and methods used to study groups and societies in an empirical manner and have experience assisting in such studies. Sociology is a closely related branch of science to that of psychology, an area in which I am considered to hold expert credentials.

Statistics

I have taken multiple graduate level statistics courses and taught college level statistics. I conducted original research and submitted statistical analysis results for publication. I continue to provide informal statistical support to former students and remain on current status as an adjunct statistics instructor at an institution of higher education.

Study Skills

I have built effective personal study skills over the course of a nine-year college career, culminating in the awarding of my philosophy doctorate degree. I have aided fellow students in studying, writing papers, and preparing for tests. I also have previous formalized tutoring experience with children and youth in grades K-12. I can help you learn how to study in order to be successful, not just for the duration of a school year, but for the course of a life time.

Violin

I have studied classical violin since the age of 9, and studied classical music history as part of my undergraduate bachelor's degree, earning a minor in classical music. I performed on violin in a variety of school, community, and honors symphonia over the course of a 15 year period. Additionally, I performed on violin in a variety of other musical modalities, including chamber music and a classical quartet. I also was a founding member of a world music band that emphasized traditional folk music forms such as fiddling. I traveled and performed professionally with the band for over 10 years. I enjoy teaching musicians of all ages, and take a special interest in teaching by traditional methods, such as imitative performance.
