I believe that strong writing and reading comprehension skills provide a foundation that will help students improve in all subjects. The ability to express ideas clearly and concisely is a skill that will serve students throughout their academic and professional careers. Writing CAN be something that students enjoy and look forward to, rather than dread and avoid.

I hold a BA in Humanities and Creative Writing from San Jose State University and a MFA in Writing from California Institute of the Arts (CalArts). I have extensive experience in writing and editing personal essays, research papers, short stories, and book-length projects. I worked as a TA for a freshman composition class at CalArts, where I was responsible for: creating all assignments, focused on helping strengthen in- and out-of-class writing skills; essay creation and revision; leading discussions on and helping students analyze various texts; and all grading.

Every student learns differently; therefore it is important to help them find the best way to approach reading and writing. Tutoring will focus on pre-writing, revision, and study skills/note taking. Content (i.e.: ideas) and grammar are equally important in every type of essay, so we will focus on strengthening both these areas. My skills are best suited for middle and high school students, and I can help students with personal essays for college applications.

I look forward to working with you and your family!

If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
