To give you a little background, I recently graduated from Lawrence University in Appleton, WI., a small liberal arts college, with a major in political science and a minor in German. Since graduation I've extensively studied economics, finance, and monetary policy and am pursuing master's degrees on economics and political science next fall. In college I focused on American history and politics, constitutional law, and rhetoric, though I also studied international relations, comparative politics, and was a model UN delegate. I also spent a semester in Freiburg, Germany studying the development and governance of the European Union. In college I wrote many, many, many 10-12 page essays as well as a 35 page independent study on rhetoric (and got A's on all of them), so I can definitely offer essay help all the way from conception to idea organization to proofreading.
I'm also a musician. I actually started out in the conservatory as a bass performance major and played in various jazz ensembles and the wind ensemble, but eventually the social sciences won out over spending 10 hours a day in a 10' x 10' basement practice room. Before college I played bass in the MA jazz band, orchestra, wind ensemble, and the Woodside and Foothill jazz bands. I played percussion in the Woodside marching band and drums with the First Congregational Church, and had taken guitar lessons at Gelb for a few years. I teach all levels of bass, upright and electric, and beginning guitar and drums. I teach composition, reading and sight-reading, improv, and bow technique. Styles in include jazz (be-bop, big band, Latin), rock, funk, blues, and flamenco.
I love to teach and hope one day to become a teacher or professor, so if I seem like the right person, then let's get started!
I have been playing guitar since I was 12. I was a music major in college. I can teach many styles (blues, rock, funk, classical, flamenco), and can teach how to read music, play rhythm guitar, and solo. I play acoustic and electric.
I have tutored people of all ages in many different subjects for over 10 years. Since study skills often aren't taught in school they're left up to the students to learn. Having mastered and taught many basic skills including mnemonic devices, reading techniques, note-taking methods, and time management, I feel comfortable tutoring not just content, but study-techniques as well.
Thorough, patient, and very attentive! — My son has always struggled with reading and writing - especially getting started. Justin managed to get our son interested and engaged with the material. Writing was no longer a hassle that caused him stress and his grades drastically improved! Furthermore, he seems to really care about his students, making them his top priority. We've had him for a while now and are constantly impressed by level ...
