I love photography and enjoying sharing my passion with others. I have been passionate about photography for nearly 20 years. It offers a unique way to see the world and communicate that with others.

My teaching style matches my personality: casual, informal, easy-going. This offers a fun and low-stress learning atmosphere. I am very patient and happy to repeat, explain differently, to ensure everything is understood.

Three Step teaching approach: 1 – discuss; 2 – show; 3 – do
I start off discussing concepts, theory, and approach. I continue to show and demonstrate the actual methods. I continue by having students ‘do’ as a fully hands-on approach. The results can be reviewed and refined and repeated as desired. From my experience, this process works very well because of step 3 – actually doing it encapsulates understanding, builds confidence in skills, and solidifies the concepts and theories.

A little about me - I fell in love with photography as a kid, I studied and learned about photography in high school and college, I expanded my knowledge and skills working in photo retail, and – today - I shoot professionally. I also teach cameras and photography to advanced amateurs, aspiring professionals, and to those who love photography as a hobby, yet still have a desire to learn more.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Photography

Learning photography is like learning to see. Slow down in life and look at the beauty around you, photograph it, and share it with the world! In order to do that though, you need to learn the art and the science behind photography.

The art is the composition, quality of light, mood of the photo, framing and cropping. The science is the aperture, shutter speeds, ISO rating, sharp focus and creative focus, and proper exposure. Then its time to mix art and science, to break all the rules, and create your own vision.

I have taught photography from behind a camera counter at a few different photo stores explaining what all those settings and dial are on the camera and when and how to use them. I have lead photography workshops in exposure, composition, basic digital cameras, and studio flash lighting.

Now, as a professional photographer – I do it everyday and would like to share it with you.
