Hi future students,
My name is Jose or most friends and family call me Jo-z. I have been playing music since I was in 6th grade (1995). I started my music career learning the trumpet and french horn, and played on my mother's piano from time to time. Eventually I became in love with 'band' driven instruments such as drums, bass and guitar. I am really proficient at guitar and am self-taught. Aside from the instruments, I am enrolled at the Art Institute of California- Los Angeles. I am currently in my last semester and will be receiving a Bachelors of Science in Audio Production. Over the past 3 years I have been learning everything about "sound"- this would include: the science of sound itself, recording in the studio, microphone techniques, mixing, building cables/mics, treating the acoustics of a room, music theory, and sound for TV and Film. I am well rounded in the softwares used in the music industry such as Pro Tools and Logic Pro. I am not yet at a professional level but am far from just a beginner. I love to help and teach students and give them the knowledge they need to succeed in the music industry. I believe that there are a lot of students that are creative and this is an excellent way to exploit that.
In past tutoring sessions dealing with teaching guitar/drums, I usually like to hear what the student likes to listen to (genre-wise) and how skilled they are on their particular instrument- then we go from there. There really is no set standard of how to teach for because I believe each student has different learning curves. I have found that I have been able to teach students faster when it involves songs or artists that they are accustomed to. I do teach some music theory so that they have an understanding of it but I really like to see where they are creativity-wise.
I own 2 electric guitars, a mac pro, pro-tools w/plugins, logic pro w/ plugins, and a 61-key midi controller (like a 61-key piano but with the option to change the sound of it)
thank you all for your consideration as a tutor and hope to see and work with you soon.
Jo-z
