My name is Dominic. I am a recent graduate of San Diego State University, where I obtained my Bachelor's degree in Linguistics with a minor in Chinese
Studies. I feel that I would be a perfect candidate for your position.
During my time at San Diego State University, much of my linguistics study was focused on English grammar
, syntax, semantics, and phonology. With a focus towards English education, this field solidified my English skills. I chose to study Chinese language
because I knew how important China was in global affairs, and by learning about Chinese language and culture, I could gain a better understanding of world events. My experiences abroad and my Chinese studies have also prepared me to work in a very diverse community where I must be aware and considerate of different cultures. My work experience at Grossmont Hospital, where I was employed for the past four years, has taught me the need for teamwork, not being afraid to ask for help, and how to properly use critical thinking to solve problems. My volunteer work at the Confucius Institute office at San Diego State University has given me the opportunity to work in a bilingual setting as well as use interpersonal and public speaking
skills, as the Confucius Institute sponsors many cultural and education events here in San Diego which are covered by various journalistic and academic media outlets. The Confucius Institute had me work as a copy editor
, translator, proofreader, and writer for media reports, so I know the importance of meeting strict deadlines and adhering to AP style writing
. My internship with the Federal Bureau of Investigation also gave me insight into current affairs, and heavily influenced my interest in learning about global events and their impact on a macro and micro level. This interest in foreign affairs motivated me to read many publications on foreign policy, diplomacy, and economics
, some of which include The Financial Times and Foreign Affairs magazine. The publications stress the importance of ethical, unbiased reporting which is something I will carry with me in this position.
