Prior to working as an independent tutor, I was a full-time English teacher for twelve years in the Poway Unified School District. During that time, I instructed in all levels of English, including Advanced Placement. I know everything that you are studying and how to help you understand it.

I tailor my tutoring sessions to your strengths and weaknesses and will help you improve your reading, writing, speaking and critical thinking skills. I specialize in literature, especially British, but I am experienced in all aspects of English. I am passionate about my subject and love helping young people understand it.

I am highly skilled with public speaking as well. I taught a speech unit every year and have facilitated debates and plays. My classes included units in persuasive, autobiographical and informative speeches so I know how to make your speech terrific regardless of genre. I also have extensive theater experience and perform regularly in San Diego so I know how to help you deliver your words to an audience.

Track & Field

I competed in Track and Field for four years in high school and another four years in college. Upon graduation, I began coaching at Mt. Carmel High School, where I have coached since 1998. I have coached all the events and possess the knowledge and skill to help athletes of all levels in every event. I have coached CIF Champions in several events as well as helping beginners improve fitness.

ESL/ESOL

I have been an English teacher for fourteen years. In that time I have worked with many English Language Learners to improve their reading, writing and speaking skills. My minor was Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) and I am CLAD certified.

Bible Studies

I am a lifelong Christian. I currently attend Hillside Community Church. I attended parochial school for nine years at Grace Lutheran School, where I was confirmed. I am knowledgeable of the Bible and love sharing God's word with others.

I have a minor in Speech and taught the techniques of public speaking for twelve years in my high school classes. I taught a linked American and U.S. History course for six years. I am very interested in history and have read widely on the subject. I love learning about the past and how it contributed to who we are today. I enjoy helping young people understand History and Social Sciences and I make the subjects relevant and interesting.

Fitness

I have been involved with fitness for 22 years. I competed in both Cross Country and Track for four years in high school and four years in college. Once my competitive years were finished, I began coaching at the high school level, which I have done for the past fourteen years. I have coached thousands of athletes in fitness activities, working with all levels and abilities.
