I am a Civil Engineer. I have 4+ years of professional experience in 1-on-1 tutoring. I'm also fluent in Spanish, English and basic Portuguese.
Driving too far from Porterville too many times a week would be cost prohibitive. Here are some options:
1. We tutor on the early in the day on the weekends and tutor for as many hours in one sitting as possible. I will use less gas and you will benefit with a reduced per hour charge.
2. We spread out the tutoring twice, three times a week for one to 2 hours and keep the payment the same.
Please keep in mind that my first session will be an assessment. I do not see tutoring your child for months as a solution. Tutoring is meant to be temporary and motivate the student to work on their own. That being said I usually try my best to have the student caught up and ahead of the class as quickly as possible, with the help of the parents. Take this into consideration when deciding the budget, the days we meet and the hours we spend per session.
The first session should be 1.5-2 hours of pep talk and assessment with solutions to quick problems. The next session should be a week in review and resolving difficult concepts. The third session should be week in review, resolving difficult concepts and week ahead in preview. By this time the student should be caught up and asking the teacher what is on the curriculum the next week. He will have learned how to investigate on their own and solve their own problems either by internet search, by study groups with other students or by talking with teachers and counsellors.
My offer is $45 an hour with a possibility of graduating your child from tutoring in 4 sessions of a possible total of 10 hours. $450 in total.
