I am currently attending Cal State Fullerton University and majoring in Civil Engineering. My expertise subject is mathematics. My school requires all civil engineering majors to complete four calculus classes and I have completed all four. I have also completed all my general education in college, so I can teach various subjects.

My experience in tutoring was in my senior year in high school where I volunteered to tutor at my old elementary school. That school has an after school program called ICES. ICES allows students to stay after school and get help on homework. I would help kids in all subjects. In high school I was in a program called AVID. AVID prepares students for college by learning how to study, how to take notes, and how to have good study habits. Not only can I help a student with a specific subject, but I can also teach them how to get prepared for future exams.

One skill I possess in tutoring is patience. I think patience is one of the most important keys to tutoring a student. I will make sure a student understands a certain subject, no matter how long it takes. When tutoring, I make sure students know the basics in order to understand certain questions and problems certain subjects arise. Another skill a have is that I am bilingual. I know both English and Spanish.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I completed Algebra 1 in High School and in College. I received a passing grade for both.

Algebra 2

I completed the algebra 2 course in high school and received a passing grade. I've also completed college algebra. My major requires a ton of mathematics courses. So I have plenty of experience with this subject.

Geometry

I've taken geometry in high school and passed. In college I've taken various mathematics courses that involves a ton of geometry. When I tutor geometry, I teach my students the size, shape, and positions of shapes. These shapes can be in 2 or 3-D. Basically, geometry helps us improve our problem solving skills in all subjects.

Microsoft Word

I have a ton of experience with this program. I've written a number of essay using Microsoft Word in high school and my four years in college.

I had an interesting question from a student this past weekend. The difference between a hypothesis and a theory. In simple terms, a hypothesis is an educated guess. It's an assumption that needs to be proven. A theory on the other hand, is a hypothesis that has been tested many times. With numerous testing, it is accepted as a true statement. Until someone proves it is untrue, the statement... read more
