About Cayenne

I am a lifelong student with more than 225 college credits at the Community College and University levels. I have a Masters Degree in Liberal Studies from Arizona State University, 4.0 GPA Summa Cum Laude. My Bachelor's Degree is from Washington State University in Humanities Cum Laude. My specialties are philosophy, anthropology, history, politics and government, art, and journalism. Included in this broad exposure is public speaking, English, and the Adobe Creative Suite especially Photoshop and Illustrator. I have many years experience as a published author on the topic of human rights and criminal justice but am semi-retired now. I have three grandchildren who are in college as well, so I am very up to date on how to survive and thrive in that environment. I would also enjoy tutoring young children in the basics of reading and writing, history, art and science. More of my education includes geology, nutrition, biology, many courses in English literature, writing, and grammar basics. I have successfully completed many courses in history, especially American history, but also including Latin American history and art history. If you are having trouble doing your homework, I am a great person to brainstorm with in order to create as well as find solutions. I am located on the edge of Phillips Ranch near Pomona and Chino Hills, remote online communication is fine with me too. I do have one year of Spanish education and can teach English. Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Adobe Illustrator

My graphic arts experience includes years of working in the media and college courses within the past six years in Illustrator, Photoshop, Digital Basics, Dreamweaver, Corel Painter and Flash. I have a good command of all these programs, plus drawing, human figure drawing and design.

Adobe Photoshop

My graphic arts experience includes years of working in the media and college courses within the past six years in Photoshop, (both beginning and intermediate), Illustrator, Digital Basics, Dreamweaver, Corel Painter and Flash. I have a good command of all these programs, plus drawing, human figure drawing and design.

American History

History is one of my best subjects and I have taken a number of community college and university level history courses in the past six years with a focus on American and Latin American history. I have also completed many courses in anthropology, taking history one step further.

Anthropology

I have passed ten anthropology courses at the community college and university level within the past five years with high grades. Some of these include Anth 316, Anth 404, Anthro 468, Anth 350, and Anth300.

Art History

I am well qualified to tutor in Art History. Periods of particular emphasis include Renaissance Art as presented in Art History 308. Baroque, Impressionism all the way through modern art. Courses I took included some personal background on the various artists, their techniques and styles as art evolved from the Middle Ages. I have a passion for art and there is much more to say.

Biology

I have taken many classes in biology and other sciences. I achieved an A in biology 300 and Nutrition 300 at the community college level. I have completed other science courses as well with high marks.

Elementary Science

I have taken many classes in biology and other sciences. I achieved an A in biology 300 and Nutrition 300 at the community college level. I have completed other science courses as well with high marks.

English

I am a published author and have aced four English classes at the university level. In addition, my two children and grandchildren are also excellent English speakers and writers. I love to tutor people in English.

General Computer

I have been using the computer since 1996 and am well qualified to teach the basics. I am primarily a Windows PC person but have a working knowledge of MAC. I can help you get started on using email, taking advantage of university libraries, and other basics.

Geology

I was married to a geologist for a large copper mining company for many years before he passed away. When I took Geology 300 in college, I expanded that in-the-field knowledge of the subject tremendously. I have a good knowledge of minerals, and incidentally learned lapidary cutting and polishing of stones.

Government & Politics

I spent many years as a human rights journalist and the topic was Government and Politics. Political Science 301 was an easy A, but I also took many courses in Latin American and US History, the latest being History 413 which covered the politics of the Presidency from Roosevelt to Clinton in great detail. I am well-qualified to tutor Government and Politics after several decades of writing articles on issues and critiquing politicians.

Grammar

I have an excellent command of grammar since I was educated during a period where it was taught seriously. My education includes many English, reading and writing courses at the community college and university levels. I am also an often-published author and have been for several decades.

Literature

English 300, English Comp and Literature 301 were easy for me to pass. From the classics to current releases, I have read, discussed and evaluated literature. A number of my personal friends are book authors, a few have written many books and my opinion before publication has been sought out many times.

Microsoft PowerPoint

I took a course in Microsoft PowerPoint so that I could make better speeches and was very worthwhile doing. Combined with my knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator and Corel Painter, my presentations are art pieces. If you want to learn how to do this well, I'm the person who can tutor you.

Nutrition

I aced Nutrition 300 at the college level. I also trained at the University of Tucson for dietary requirements of dialysis patients when I was caring for a loved one. I really enjoy all the modern software such as "Diet Analysis" that gives feedback on daily intake and breaks food items down to explain their chemistry.

Philosophy

Philosophy courses included Phil 300, 320 (Logic) and 413, religion and evolution. I was required to write long essays to prove arguments in Phil 413 which is a high level course. I earned A's in all of these classes and developed a love for reason and being able to recognize logical fallacies.

Public Speaking

I am a very experienced public speaker and also took the college courses. I also know how to prepare PowerPoint presentations which makes public speaking so much easier. It is good to work with someone when trying to communicate points, especially when there is so little time allotted.

Reading

I have been a voracious reader since the age of 3, well before there was any internet. I like the internet better because it gives one wide access to many libraries. English 300, English Literature 301 were easy for me to pass. Course work at the University Level required reading from four to fifteen books for each class per semester. I am very well read and keep myself current as well. I scored 96% on the S.A.T. tests and very comfortable with tutoring reading. I also have one semester of university level Spanish.

Social Studies

Social Studies brings history, government, geography and sociology together in one subject. I have taken each aspect of social studies to the highest levels of education and work experience. I will gladly provide a list of completed courses and applications in the work world.

Sociology

I have taken many courses at the community college and university levels in sociology. I won a scholarship for my work in sociology from Washington State University in 2011.

Spelling

I was a spelling champion in the 6th grade and consider this to be one of my great skills, along with writing and grammar. I like to use rhymes to help people to remember the spelling rules. Example: I before E except after C or when sounded as A, as in neighbor and weigh.

Vocabulary

I can tutor vocabulary well and have taken many courses in college level English. I am a published author but try to communicate in conversational English so that everyone can understand. I had high marks in English 300, 301, and wrote many expository essays in College on a number of topics.

Web Design

After completing two semesters of college-level courses that focused on Dreamweaver software, I am qualified to tutor you in the basics of Web Design. I can also write basic html, have taken one semester of Adobe Flash for webpages. If you want to learn how to put custom artwork on your website, I have taken Illustrator, Photoshop, Corel Painter, type design and drawing. These are the primary components that you use when designing a webpage.

Writing

I have written and published about 1000 articles under my own byline in many publications. My college coursework included English 300, 301, Screenwriting, and many journalism classes. I was required to master expository writing in my senior year in college especially, so I am very familiar with the components of a formal essay. This has been my occupation for several decades.
