I am an experienced Math tutor (4 recent years, 50+ students), college instructor and software engineer. I have helped students succeeded from the most difficult to the most elementary Math courses. I have unmatched Math (with technical) background and know many issues of learning Math in general and any particular class. I was admitted to UCB Math PhD program (but chose Purdue PhD for some reason). Some students eventually go to a top college (UCB (>2), Davis, UOP). Others did learn the basic Math they needed in their jobs and lives. My rates are very reasonable given what I could do to help. Please read on for more detail.
I have tutored and helped college students since the 80s and substantially in the last 5 years, on all HS Math classes (many Hon.). I have a Math PhD (and MS in EE, CS) from Purdue and taught various courses before and after graduation, and regularly at San Jose State U (Calculus III for Fall 2012) and junior colleges.
Calculus: I have many Calculus students (AP and non-AP) and taught Calculus II, III at SJSU. I know many issues of learning Calculus and have effective solutions. I also wrote 5 sections for a free Calculus textbook. On top of 4 standard Calculus courses, I have taken several graduate level Analysis courses (real and complex variables, topology, measure theory).
Hon. class and Math competition: I have helped many Hon. class students with extra practices and drills I set myself. One of my student also got first in MathCount in his city.
Basic: I have taught students (many of them adults) the basics of Math (4 operations, fraction, decimal) systematically so they gained valuable skill in their jobs and lives.
I can help in these areas: pre-Algebra, (Honors) Algebra I & II, Geometry (with proofs), pre-Calculus, (AP, College, 3-D) Calculus, Linear Algebra, Probability, (lower class) Physics*, and Java*.
*I have very intensive training in mechanics including kinematics, Newton's Laws (with friction) and statics. I also have taken graduate courses in electromagnetism and optics. I worked on applications research and system software (e.g. Open Source) to support applications including the Java (and J2ME) and Bluetooth communication stacks.
