Arabic

Arabic is my native language. I speak, read and write Moroccan and Modern standard Arabic fluently. I taught Moroccan and Modern Standard Arabic both in Morocco and the United States to, respectively, French and American Students and colleagues at the American Language Center in Morocco. I was a Fulbright Arabic Fellow and taught at a liberal art college in the State of Vermont in 2004. I taught American students (from the University of Georgia Athens) Moroccan Arabic during the summer of 2007. By the end of the course, they showed the ability to interact in social settings where they were able to communicate with people around them.

This course is designed for learners of Beginning and Intermediate Arabic. Beside putting more focus on the study of sounds, pronunciation, building oral-aural reflex and useful expressions, a great part of this course will also include acquisition and activation of vocabulary. New words and phrases are supposed to be used when students are interacting in the target language. Using a dictionary will enable students improve their Arabic repertoire. However not all the words in the drills are introduced. Actually, students have to find out about new words and check them in their dictionaries; while more time will be devoted to grammar. The practice of vocabulary along with the grammar will allow faster acquisition.

Class time will be devoted to interactive work that improves basic comprehension, expands cultural knowledge, and teaches structure accuracy.

Most of the grammar in the book is based on the story. Students would not need long presentations in class about grammar as it is put in a very clear simple way in the book.

Feedback from the students will be of much importance rather than giving ready answers. Critical thinking is as important as memorization. Doing homework after each class helps emphasize everything tackled in class.

My methodology is based on Second Language Acquisition.

English

I graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in English Literature and Linguistics from Cadi Ayyad University, Marrakesh, Morocco. I taught English both as a Foreign and Second Language to Moroccan and french students for eight years before I moved to the US.

My area of expertise is to create the right conditions where second language acquisition occurs in the classroom setting. Real life situations and lowering students anxiety are the basic foundation towards learning a target language.

I have earned a tutoring certificate from Los Angeles City College and have successfully helped students pass reading and writing tests.

French

As both English and Arabic, French Language Acquisition is based on the same interaction and teaching techniques. During the years, I have developed my own teaching methodology based on my daily experience teaching different languages. Lexicon (Phrases and sentences) are learned in a relaxed real environment. I use Second Language Acquisition to help students build their French vocabulary repertoire without feeling burdened by the rules. I have special teaching materials and years of expertise. I tutored French to Moroccan students and American visiting teachers (colleagues).

Grammar

Grammar is one of the components that build language structure. When acquiring a language most students put focus on grammar thinking it is a separate entity from the whole package. I have skills to teach grammar in such a way where the student does not feel burdened by the rules. It happens indirectly and within context/real life situations.

Reading

I have a long experience of helping students develop their literacy skills and concepts.Fluency and comprehension are two main goals within the task of teaching students to read. However, I focus on sound and speech, spelling, grammar and expanding vocabulary repertoire. Through my experience teaching and tutoring different languages, I am able to assess students' levels and decide which reading fits their needs.

Study Skills

During my teaching experience, I have used methods and skills to assist my students grasp the material taught. Time management, recognizing verb groups, language cognates and memorizing techniques are all key to acquire a second language.
