"Matches my pace perfectly. Great for high performers and new students alike!"
Rebecca from Costa Mesa, CA on 1/23/14
John is an excellent tutor! John was always polite and professional, and has the rare combination of genius and people skills to be able to communicate his mathematical insight. John is assertive, knowledgeable, and DOES NOT WASTE ANY TIME! I feel I got more per hour with John than with any other tutor I have ever worked with. John is on his A-game every time we meet, and "connects the mathematical dots" in a way my teachers and study partners cannot. I met with him for Trigonometry, and a friend used him for Intermediate Algebra! We would meet with him during the week and before tests while taking ultra-accelerated college level courses, and John kept us "dialed in" for success. I notice I retain the materials I review with John more than the things I learn in class or on my own. John was a key factor in my success, managed times well to match our busy schedules, and even met us late a couple of times! Thanks for going above and beyond John!
"An excellent fit for my son"
Bonnie from Venice, CA on 5/28/14
John masterfully guided my son through AP physics and AP calculus this past year. My son was overwhelmed and didn't really understand how to approach the college level coursework. Having John help him digest the material and review concepts that were confusing or just didn't stick was exactly what he needed to regain his confidence and successfully finish the year.
"Fantastic tutor - very accommodating and patient."
Suzie from Los Angeles, CA on 3/2/14
Without John I am not sure I would have made it through statistics, and with an "A" to boot! I am an adult learner and currently enrolled in an online school working on my BSN (Bachelor's of Science in Nursing). John is non-judgmental and extremely patient. He had no problem meeting me in coffee shops in my area. During our sessions, he wrote things out, and drew diagrams, which was helpful because I am a visual learner. He is a brilliant man but was still able to break down the concepts so that I could understand them. I highly recommend John as a tutor to any age - his rate is worth every penny!
"John is the best!"
Tracy from Torrance, CA on 2/9/14
My son was really struggling with honors chemistry and had basically lost confidence in his ability to understand the material. John gave my son his confidence back and he couldn't be better suited to my son's needs. What makes John such a wonderful tutor is his ability to figure out how each student learns and then explain the material to them in a way they can understand. He's incredibly patient and it's clear that he loves teaching. John also works really to hard to accommodate people's schedules. We couldn't have asked for a better tutor.
"A refreshing and effective approach to math."
William from Manhattan Beach, CA on 9/5/13
John has worked with my two sons with great results. He was able to turn geometry into something understandable, algebra a breeze and SAT prep too. I highly recommend him for students of all ages.
"Passionate about tutoring"
Fariba from Torrance, CA on 3/24/13
John is helping my son with Ap-physics and Multi-variable calculus. It was hard to find a qualified tutor but from the first session, I had complete trust in him. John is passionate and positive about his job and he makes lessons fun for the students.
"Extremely Effective Tutor!"
Valerie from Hermosa Beach, CA on 1/22/13
John helped my son perform his best in his math class by being completely focused on determining what my son needed to succeed in his class,
John is extremely knowledgeable about math and explains concepts in a way students can understand. We were extremely appreciative of John's flexibility in scheduling the time and location of the tutoring sessions.
Harry from Santa Monica, CA on 1/20/13
He is patient and understanding, and he explains the material well (better than some teachers even). It can be difficult to arrange a meeting with him due to his already large number of clients.
John replied on 1/21/2013:
Thanks Harry for the kind words!
To prospective new clients...
regarding difficulties finding a time to meet, it's true that that can happen, especially during crunch times like the end of a semester.
There are two things students can do to minimize this possibility. First, if we set up a regular meeting time then that becomes "your" time in my schedule. Second, if you want to schedule on an "as needed" basis, try to give me as much lead time as possible because my schedule does fill up.
Please know that I do everything possible to meet my students' needs to include things like meeting 11 p.m. till midnight or answering quick questions by phone between sessions to get you past a stumbling stone that's tripping you up.
"I don't think you could ask for more."
Ron from El Segundo, CA on 1/10/13
First of all I would like to say that my son is smart but semi-shy at first. That did not bother John and he moved forward. John knows how to read people, which I think is a key talent when teaching. Our son was learning while gaining John's trust. It all worked out perfect with our son's original worry of a failing grade in calculus, to achieving a better grade than he expected. John was also in constant contact regarding appointments, and more importantly how our son thought it was going.
I would recommend John to anyone wanting to learn, and would trust that he could probably help pretty much anyone, and any personality, as long as they were willing to listen/learn. We will no doubt call John again. Thank you, and good job John H.
"Teaches You How to Think"
Marcia from Los Angeles, CA on 10/3/12
My daughter got one of the first "A" grades in not only statistics, but math after John helped her study for a test. She had problems on the test which had not been covered in the homework, but because he taught her how to think through and set up the problem she got almost full credit. He didn’t just teach her how to do the homework, he taught her how to think so she could work it out herself. That’s a gift —thank you.
"Outstanding Statics Tutor (Engineering)"
Nicole from Los Angeles, CA on 10/1/12
If you are looking for a great tutor, LOOK NO FURTHER. John is the ONE!!
He is the best Tutor I have had by far. I chose John because out of 149 reviews he had a 4.9 rating. He gave a detailed description of the subjects he tutored, which caught my eye. His educational background and work history profile was phenomenal. He knows what he is teaching. All our tutoring sessions have been good. He gives detailed examples and explanations for all problems, i.e, Force, Moments and Couples. He is a better instructor than my teacher. His goal is to help you succeed, so you will understand the dynamics of the course or courses your are taking. If you have any problems before your tutoring lesson, he is more than glad to assist you. He is a very patient, very knowledgeable and helpful. After our first tutoring lesson, I knew he was it for me.
Tonia from Hawthorne, CA on 5/25/12
John is a fantastic tutor. He has truly helped my daughter in the few short weeks that they have worked together turn her perspective totally around with regards to Chemistry. My daughter went from failing quizzes and test in Chemistry to making A's simply by being able to get a better understanding of the terms used in her class. John makes the lessons fun yet easy to understand. I would definitely recommend him to anyone who is looking for a GREAT tutor.
Joe from Torrance, CA on 4/14/12
John is a great tutor. Before getting tutored by John I had little confidence to handle statistics. John not only taught me statistics but empowered me and instilled confidence in me to tackle problems on my own. He is very chill and laid back but gets things done. Flexible, kind, understanding, very patient, and precise i strongly recommend you give him a call.
Laurie from Rancho Palos Verdes, CA on 1/4/12
John knows how to put things in terms you can understand. Breaks a hard subject like physics down to everyday examples that allows you to understand it. Before the session is over, he makes certain you've got the lesson under your belt. He is approachable and funny. He calmed me when I was nervous about a test and gave me tools so that I could ask myself the right questions in class to get the right answers. He was worth every penny and I succeeded in getting a good grade on the final and the class because of him.
Alisa from Santa Monica, CA on 12/17/11
Student enrolled in AP Chemistry in late August and really struggled. Found John through WyzAnt in September. Student had a "D" in AP Chemistry in September, now in December getting 100% on AP Chemistry quizzes.
"Jumps right in!!!!"
CC from Cypress, CA on 12/2/11
John went over and above in our first sessions to help our son get ready for a test, he was behind the eight-ball and having someone like John jump in and get him headed in the right direction was a blessing.
John has continued with our son for almost 6 months and it has made a difference in his grades! He is maintaining almost a straight A'S in college classes. He enjoys and feels John is making a difference.
"best tutor ever!"
Pat from Torrance, CA on 8/23/11
John helped our son complete his summer assignments for his upcoming High School AP Chemistry class. He was so wonderful and he specifically addressed what our son was having trouble with. Our son feels comfortable with the material he was asked to learn and is off to a great start thanks to only two sessions with John. Being a teacher myself I cannot express enough the value of a student starting off feeling confident and prepared. We will be keeping John's number handy during the year should we need it and would highly recommend John to any parent of a High School student. Money well spent! Thank-you John.
"The BEST tutor you could ever ask for"
Clay from Playa Del Rey, CA on 8/15/11
To those in a bind, desperately looking for help- your search can stop here.
I was conditionally accepted into the University of my dreams until I was notified that my acceptance was reversed due to a discrepancy on my transcript in the subject of mathematics. This notification came late in April without the benefit of time; I had exactly 35 days to finish an online, 5 unit, 20 week long Calculus course.
I had previously withdrawn from a Calculus course earlier that fall semester, and barely made a C in my Algebra course prior to that. I was done for.
That's when I found John.
John is more than a tutor, he is a coach, a motivator, someone who will inspire you when you feel you are at the end of the road, defeated, and out of options. The instruction offered by John is exceptional, he is the true definition of a teacher. John will not do the work for you, instead he will give you all of the necessary the tools to gain the understanding needed to be able to solve the problem on your own. He is unique in which he can identify the fundamental skill you are lacking on any given problem, and offer a creative solution to get you back on track.
I did the unthinkable- with the aid of John and some serious hard work and dedication, I learned Calculus in 35 days, passing with a final grade of a B.
I am proud to say that I will be continuing my education at that University this fall.
"Outstanding Tutor! Exactly what I've been looking for. "
Tammy from Torrance, CA on 7/5/11
John has spent a total of 8 hours tutoring my son in Algebra. He has achieved more progress with him in this short amount of time than any other tutor or teacher I've sought help from over the past 4 years! John is extremely patient and has a fantastic niche for figuring out how to best teach the student. Definitely goes above and beyond the methods of traditional teaching. I am so thankful we found John!
"John is terrific at targeting instruction towards each student's unique needs"
Terry from Long Beach, CA on 5/1/11
John spent time during the first session doing a thorough assessment of my son's mathematical skills. By investing this time upfront, he set up a framework for providing individualized instruction specifically targeted to my son's problem areas. John recognizes that "one size DOESN'T fit all" and works hard to meet the unique needs of his students. Thanks, John!
Dante from Newport Beach, CA on 4/20/11
If not for John, my son would be bombing out of upper level Chemical Engineering. Worth every penny!
