The United Negro College Fund said it the best "The Mind Is a Terrible Thing to Waste" (1972). Therefore with dedication and preparation you and I will work together to get your child where he/she needs to be academically. As a recent graduate from University of San Francisco with a Masters in Business and a Teaching Credential from Cal State Teach. I have had the opportunity to work with grades k-8th in both a private and public sector. Through my experience I have worked with students at different academic levels from English Language Learners, Students with Special needs and Gate students. Over the pass two years I have worked as a Para Professional, Substitute teacher and a Master teacher in my own classroom. With my experience and desire to inspire children to do well in school I know that I can help your child reach his/hers short term and long term academic goals.
My teaching strategy is simple: "learning is like a pyramid, all subjects build on each other". When a student is struggling I like to find out what they know already and build up from there. If you read consistently and pay attention to how the author wrote the material, then in time you can build your own writing skills. If you struggle with reading go back to phonemic and phonics basic awareness and see if their is a miss connection between sounds and blending sounds. If your child struggles with understanding material written in their text books then maybe their is a miss connect with comprehending grade appropriate text and your child needs to learn new strategies to help him/her decode the material and comprehend what they are reading. Furthermore, my teaching strategy is not to just help the student pass a test but to ensure that your child learns the appropriate strategies to tackle their weaker areas by themselves in the future.
