I am available to help in many areas including, but not limited to, proofreading, organizing essays, and music theory.
I have experience with teaching and tutoring students of all ages, and I enjoy working in an educational setting. Teaching/tutoring is not just a job for me, it is something that I enjoy doing. I consider myself to be well-rounded, as I have tutored various school related subjects to high school students. I have also taught piano lessons to elementary aged students with no prior musical background. But one thing stands true regardless of the subject: I enjoy trying to keep things interesting for students when I am tutoring because if it is interesting it is easier to have better results. In addition to my previous experience with tutoring and teaching, I have my undergraduate degree in music. Throughout my time as an undergraduate I took various liberal arts courses, including writing, psychology, sociology, and women's studies courses.
I have tutored students of all ages. No two students are alike and therefore my tutoring process changes with each student. I enjoy tutoring because I love helping students in the learning process. I enjoy helping students learn because I love seeing students go from not understanding something to being able to confidently perform a task. When I teach I encourage the students to work past their difficulties and I encourage them to persevere even when things get difficult. I feel that if I make the task enjoyable and understandable then the student will be able to learn and accomplish what they hope to accomplish. If learning is fun then the possibilities are endless!
I have experience with ear training from my studies at my university. I have taken and passed the first 4 (required) levels of ear training/sight singing/dictation. I know what work is required to succeed in this area and I know helpful techniques to help people improve in this area.
I enjoy working on sentence structure and helping students with editing their essays. I hope to not only help students improve their writing, but to also help students understand why we are making these improvements.
I have studied the flute privately, and feel very confident in my ability to teach beginning flute students. I can play the full range of notes on the flute and even the high D in the altissimo level of the flute. I have solo, ensemble, and pit orchestra experience with the flute. I also know how to play the piccolo.
I have taken two foundations of music history classes at my previous university which have helped me learn the basics of music history. I have also taken specialty music history classes in popular music, jazz history, and classical music. I am a musician so I not only have a background in music history but I know what it is like to play the music that is discussed in these courses (especially jazz).
I have previous experience with teaching piano lessons to beginning piano students. I studied music in college, so I am very familiar with how to teach basic music skills and how to teach beginning piano skills. I can teach beginning level piano students in a fun and enjoyable way because I keep things interesting, but I make sure progress is made at each lesson.
