I enjoy working with your son. He does try to get out of doing work, but is easily motivated by being given choices within the boundaries. He has a ways to go, but has much potential. He has grown more in his confidence on his abilities in math. I look forward to further assisting him in his educational needs.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

I can work with students that have the needs of a student with ADD/ADHD- We will work together to rechannel any extra energy into our task at hand. We will take breaks when needed to keep the student focused and will work on keeping the mind alert. I will use sounds to refocus the student- for example gently tapping on the desk/table to refocus the eyes. I will us a gentle touch on the wrist to direct student too. I have a lot of experiene with student with ADD /ADHD.

Aspergers

I will inquire to find out what is the students interests and pull that into what we are learning about as analogies to getting our work understood. We will work toward taking breaks when they are earned after finishing a task. I will speak up to my student and show interest in his areas that interest him.

Autism

I will inquire to learn what form of Austism needs to addressed. We will gear the lesson towards to help the student focus and feel good about themselves. We will use visual and verbal commands and learning aids. We will also use sometimes physical aids. (Standing up and moving to learn facts in math and reading etc.)

Career Development

I can coach you on getting that "Dream Job." We will work on employment interview practice skills by conducting a "mock interview." We will work on time management skills. Also we will discuss what is a good way to use your talents to sell yourself on a job interview.

Dyslexia

I will request information to assist my student in learning what form of Dyslexia they have needs with. We will work on different aids- tracking with our fingers as we read, having worksheets xeroxed on colored paper and enlarging print. We will also work on trying different fonts on our printed items.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have worked for years with students in the K-4 ability level and feel that I am very strong laying the foundation in the subject areas of Math- Basics, and Reading and Reading Comprehension. I have been sucessful and helping students become excited to learn and teach others about what they have learned.

Phonics

We will make sure we learn our letters and their sounds. We will work on letter blends and how they work together in a word. We will work on enjoying reading and tracking our words and train our eyes to read the works eventually without our trackig fingers. We will work with flash cards and worksheets.

Reading

We will start with evaluating the childs skill level and review where they should be on skills for their grade level. We will work not just on reading word, but how to sound them out. We will work on sight words and word sound families. We will work with work sheet and flash cards. We will work on not just guessing in our reading, but actually reading the words. We will get the whole body working on reading. We will work on comprehesion and get a love for reading instilled in the child.

Special Needs

We will work on the basics of the sounds of letters and letter blends. We will learn about word families and what letters do when they are together in words. We will work on little tips on how to remember how to spell the words. We will work with work sheet and flash cards and spelling drills.

Study Skills

We will work on reviewing what is needed to be done at the present time and organize out time. We will learn key words and tips on how to attack tests. We will learn how to write things down in our planners so as to be able to focus on one thing at a time. We will have rewards for achieving out goals.

Vocabulary

We will make sure we can read the words and learn about prefixes and suffixes and how they can help us figure out the meaning of words. We will learn how to use a dictionary so have this skill for when it might be needed. We will work with work sheets and flash cards.
