I have a lot of fun with math and science and want you to also! My name is Austin, and I am a graduate with a B.S. (with Distinction) in Physics and B.A. in Math. Currently, I am pursuing my MS in Bioinformatics, so am very empathetic to the stress of being a student. One of the reasons I enjoy tutoring, is that working with other students I am constantly reminded myself to do the same thing I advise. School can be hard, but excellence in knowledge is always worth the effort.
EXPERIENCE AND BACKGROUND
For the last 6 years, I tutored in part- to full-time in physics, math, chemistry and Latin part-time, helping Jr High students, High School and college students. My tutees' ages have ranged from elementary to retirees with each person having a different way of learning. Having tutored such a wide range of students, I have become very familiar with different learning student learning styles and also what they need to do in order to excel.
My teaching experience includes being president of my physics club during my undergraduate education, helping to organize free tutoring to college students, organizer in MESA and MECHA events on campus. I also frequently organized club outreach trips to local middle schools and fairs where we gave demonstrations and helped students with their projects. As a astronomy docent, I assisted college students during observations and participated in astronomy research field trips.
As a private tutor, I see my primary objective as teaching myself out of a job. By this of course, I mean giving students the tools they need to move forward without me. I tend in general work lots of examples similar to the problem at hand to help guide the student in productive studying and feel confident about the subject. As much as possible, I try and relate to the student at whatever level of understanding they are at so that they can have the confidence in their knowledge to move forward. We all learn differently: I do my best to provide a custom learning experience. Using this method, I have helped all of my students excel with their homework, tests and entrance exams.
My goal after I receive my masters is to work in a professional environment and teach at some point after I have earned my "stripes." Although I enjoy applying math and science in the "real world," it is also very important to me being able to work with students one-on-one.
NOTE: If you are interested in being instructed over the summer, please contact me and we can set up a plan to prepare you (or your child) for that fall class. I also have experience developing a customized curriculum for students who want to study ahead in preparation for that next math or science class they are taking.
