In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I worked at a tutoring facility for 10 years that worked extensively with students who were diagnosed with ADD and ADHD. As a credentialed teacher, I have been working with students with ADD and ADHD individually and in large and small group settings. As a special education teacher, I worked in a program that catered to a wide range of disabilities that included ADD and ADHD. When I work with students who are diagnosed with ADD and ADHD, I focus on strategies that can regulate sensory needs as well as developing focus and attention to the details that they need to attend in a classroom setting.

Previous to this I worked at a Montessori program where I was able to work with two different students that were on the Autistic Spectrum. They were from two ends of the spectrum. One was verbal and high functioning and the other was non verbal and low functioning.
I took the CBEST and have three credentials one of which is a multiple subject credential. I was able to coach two members of my cohort to prepare for the CBEST and they both passed. I have a very broad range of knowledge and can help clarify and create understanding for all areas of the CBEST preparation.

I have an extensive background working in Early Childhood Education and have my Multiple Subject Credential. I have just completed a Masters of Arts in Teaching Reading. I am able to personalize an approach to teaching phonics tailored to each student I work with. I assess their needs and develop an approach that will work best for them. Using a sensorial approach is the best method. Pairing sounds with realia helps lock the sound to letter in their memory. If I see a possible learning delay I have other approaches and many resources for referral.

I typically assess how the student is currently studying and then address ways in which the student can improve. I try to find the methods that connect best with the way that they learn. For example: If the student is an active learner I might have them include movement or something kinesthetic in their study process.
