I have been tutoring for over 15 years (professionally for 7 years). My students have ranged from elementary students trying to get ahead in math to high school students prepping for standardized tests to executive MBA students looking for a leg up. I am very comfortable working with students of all ages and backgrounds. Whether you are looking to get a better understanding of your class material or to get farther ahead in advanced curriculum, I can help to direct and focus your academic energy for the most efficient and positive results.
I specialize in developing solid fundamentals in mathematics that allows my student to take and excel in advanced and AP classes. I emphasize understanding over rote memorization and challenge my students to really learn the material. I also focus on sound, proven SAT, ACT, and AP test taking strategies and material for standardized testing.
My drive to excel as a tutor allows me to not only serve as an excellent mentor/teacher, but also improve and maintain my own personal knowledge. Using a constant feedback mentality, I have been able to maintain close working relationships with both my students and their parents. This allows me to consistently and continually modify my sessions to address my students' needs. My current rate is listed for regular, weekly students and $15/hr more for short-notice (i.e., single or infrequent sessions) students. I have a one-and-a-half-hour session minimum, as I find that the students are just hitting a "buckle down, get it done" mode peak 15-20 minutes into a session and the extra time allows them to optimally absorb the material. This cost includes my transportation fees to your location and the session itself (additional fees may apply to students located further than a few miles away from my home or Caltech). If you are willing to travel to my home or Caltech, a discount may apply. Please contact me to discuss these details.
Although there are tutors that do charge less, I feel that my results speak for themselves. In the past few of years, I've had multiple students who started the semester out with two or three "F" and "D"-grade tests and pulled them all to at least B's for their semester, recorded grade. I have also had many students who were doing well in their classes but wanted additional preparation for class and all of them received A's. Alongside the grade achievements, I have always enjoyed great praise from all of my students' parents (references available upon request). I'm sure that you are going to have many people that you are contacting with very solid credentials. I just want to make sure that you find someone who not only meets your needs but exceeds them. I know that I have a great deal to offer as a tutor and look forward to hearing from you in order to find out how good a fit I can be.
In order to make sure that you are able to select the best candidate for the job, I offer a trial first lesson at no charge. However, I do ask that if you decide to retain my tutoring services that you compensate me for the first session. For single session students, pay only if you feel that the session met your needs.
