I believe one of the most important qualities in a good tutor/teacher is a teachable spirit. As a tutor, I enjoy building trust with the student in order to facilitate a successful learning experience. In tutoring sessions, I listen to the student's needs and strive to encourage the student through the building of a positive, goal-oriented environment. I take great joy in those proverbial "light bulb" moments, when a concept "clicks" in the student's mind.
I graduated from a college prep high school, where I was a member of multiple academic honor societies and received a perfect score on five AP exams (American History, European History, Art History, English Literature, English Language/Composition). I have a bachelor's degree in Theological Studies (religion) from Wheaton College, a nationally ranked liberal arts college in Illinois. In addition to studying theology as an undergrad, I took many courses in English/Literature and received a prize in the college's annual essay contest. Currently, I am pursuing a master's degree in theology at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena.
One of my greatest assets as a tutor is my passion for my areas of specialization. I endeavor to use that passion as a catalyst for promoting academic success in my students. Even the task of crafting a compelling thesis statement for a paper grants me great satisfaction. It is my hope that students who may be struggling in a particular subject area will gain confidence in their abilities and see the results on tests, exams, and papers. I count it a privilege to be able to serve as a facilitator in the student's journey of learning and discovery.
