I am very passionate about my subject area, English language arts. As a high school English teacher for 7 years I was proud of my ability to help my students engage with the subject, making it both personal and formal. I love making classic literature relevant and am proud to say that my students almost always came away loving Shakespeare, or at least appreciating him. Beyond the classics, I am passionate about helping students find what fits their style of reading. As the English Department Chair at my previous international school setting, I made it my job to find literature that was both well-written, and yet relevant for my students in their setting. I am well-read in both fiction and non-fiction and can do this for students as well.

Writing is also vital and I too enjoy teaching this. As a writer myself, I enjoy sharing my own work from time to time in order to help my students feel more free to express themselves. On a more formal level, I have years of experience teaching the writing process, editing papers, and encouraging students to do their own editing. I have worked with hundreds of students on SAT prep, giving them tangible ways to improve their scores and their overall writing skills.

Overall, I am a passionate person who enjoys communicating and helping students communicate too. For me, this happens best through reading and writing. I interact well with my students and they generally have a healthy balance of respect for me and my style. I love working with students and seeing them grow. As a Graduate student I miss interacting with high school kids on a daily basis, and I look forward to working with them on their homework.
