Effective and experienced tutor for all your Math and Geology needs

Hi everyone,

My name is Vanessa B., and I just graduated from UCLA with a Bachelor's degree in Geology on June 2012. I'm currently applying for graduate school, pursuing the same major as a Master's student. I joined WyzAnt a few months ago.

Before I transferred to UCLA, I was studying in Pasadena City College, where I worked as a Math tutor for two years. I have experience in dealing with different learning styles, and I learned how to shape my teaching style in accordance to someone's way of learning.

I believe that everyone learns in their own way, and that no way is better than another. I consider someone's time precious; as such, I always make sure that my students get the best out of their time.

It brings me great pleasure when students understand something they did not before, because I know that I helped them overcome their weakness, however small that may be.

I don't go easy on my students; my goal is to make sure that students come out of my tutoring sessions with confidence and understanding of the subject that I helped them with. I have the tendency to put high expectations on what I and my students can accomplish during those sessions. This, I think, greatly benefits the students.

Vocabulary

Reading has always been my passion. When people ask me why my vocabulary is big, I tell them that it all came about from reading. I say the same advice when people ask me what they can do to improve their vocabulary. I recently took the GRE (Graduate Record Examinations) and I had to learn more vocabulary from flash cards. Reading

Reading has always been a part of my life. I read classic novels like "Count of Monte Cristo" and "Three Musketeers". I'm a voracious reader, and I would normally read ~4 novels during the summer months. I look at Trigonometry as just Algebra and Geometry combined. This is the reason why I believe that having a strong foundation in both Algebra and Geometry really helps in succeeding in Trigonometry. Hi there,
