I have taught American History for 3 of my 16 years of teaching. I am also a history minor in my degree. I have a passion for the topic and am well versed in the subject. I enjoy teaching the history as well as the geography of the areas as well.
I have significant experience teaching the writing process to students in grade levels K-8. Having a master’s degree in education with a reading emphasis, along with 16 years teaching in public schools, I am able to employ a wide range of teaching tools for individual student needs. Reading and writing are integrally connected of course, but the processes of learning, and the approaches for teaching these critical skills are distinctly different. I am confident in my ability to bring out effective writing skills in my students. For the last seven years, I taught 4th grade writing in preparation for my students’ first state standard tests. Overall my students had success, and many of them had outstanding success on these tests.
I have formulated lesson plans for the five steps of the writing process, which are suitable for elementary and middle school students. They are guided through each step of the process in order to complete clear and concise writing samples. My lessons are designed to help young writers bring their own voice and depth to their written works.
I also worked part-time as a grader of practice tests for 10th graders, who were preparing to take the exit test of the state standards. I am well-acquainted with the state standards and understand what is required for students in writing on all grade levels.
My certifications in Texas are for Elementary Multiple Subjects grades 1-8, and ESL. I have a California clear credential, substitute license, and my multiple subject credential should be granted sometime soon.
Having taught for 16 years in self contained classrooms, I taught math everyday, grades K-8. I also tutored math students of all ages after school and on Saturdays. Most recently, the school where I taught, used the Envision program for math. However, I can work with any given program. My state standard tests scores amongst my students were generally quite good, with over 85 percent of my classes passing.
I taught 5th grade for three of my sixteen years in the classroom. I have also taught third and fourth grade science. Since 5th graders are tested in science for the state standards, I am well versed in the standards for science grades 3-5.
I am an English major and I have a master's degree in Education with a reading emphasis. I am well read in terms of English literature and I understand how to disect a novel in order to find the meaning. As far as writing goes, I have taught writing all of my 16 years in teaching to elementary students, mainly grades 4 and 5. I am proficient in grammar and I do well in helping students organize essays to write.
During my 16 years teaching in the classroom, I taught all subjects including geography, including the United States geography and world geography.
I am well acquainted with the writing process and have taught fourth grade writing for the past seven years. Grammar is a critical piece to writing and important in making efficient writers. I have also done a lot of writing workshops for fourth graders as well as seventh graders. I have tutored writing, grades K-8.
My BA degree is in English where I became an avid reader of literature. I have 16 years experience of teaching reading in the classroom. I have worked with grades 3, 4, 5, and 6 specifically in reading. Reading is one of my passions and therefore excites me to share with students, who in turn learn to love literature and reading as well.
I have a Master's degree in education with a reading emphasis. Phonics is a crucial part of the learning to read process. I work on visualization of letters to words, using magnetic or sand paper letters to help a student internalize letters and the sounds that they make. Words Their Way activities have many activities that focus on the study of phonics. I have tutored and taught at Saturday school with methods to help students increase their phonetic knowledge of words.
English is my major and I also have a Master's degree in Education with a reading emphasis. I have spent the past 8 years teaching writing to fourth graders and editing is a critical piece of their writing process. I have edited countless college student papers as well. I am good at looking at writing and seeing the errors, and if allowed, to teach how the English grammar works. Literacy teaching is my passion.
I have a Master's degree in Reading Education and am well practiced and versed in literacy instruction. I work on fluency, comprehension, word meaning in order to help readers become more knowledgeable about what they are reading. I understand the state standards in reading and have lessons to coincide what is expected on the tests.
Spelling, like vocabulary building is a critical piece to the learning of literacy. I use Words Their Way to customize spelling lists. By customizing spelling lists, I am able to have the student focus on spellings that they need to work on. By using Words Their Way, students move at their own pace, in order to master spelling before moving onto the more difficult.
I am qualified to teach study skills as I am able to teach students how to organize their work and take notes and then go back and study the notes for exams. I also, with my literacy training background am able to teach students to read textbooks, looking for information, and taking notes on the information in order to retain the information. I can set students up with a 3 ringed binder, labeling tabs and teach them how to keep track of their work. A better organized student, makes a better test taker, as students are prepared and well studied with organization in their study materials.
Vocabulary study is a critical piece of reading, writing, and speaking. I focus with my students on building their vocabulary, internalizing the meanings and spellings of the words, in order to help students choose interesting words in their writing. I use Words Their Way activities to work through vocabulary, look for patterns in spellings as well as meanings. I use many "games" to help in vocabulary building and my students generally like the subject.
Writing is probably the subject, I excel in teaching. For the eight years, I have taught fourth grade students in writing, in order to prepare them for the fourth grade testing. I teach using the writing process and then work on the fine tuning by adding their voice and depth to their topics, to make complete pieces of writing. I have taught the writing process to grades 1-7 using the writing process. I have been involved with after school tutoring for writers and Writing Workshops on Saturdays. I have a Master's degree in Education with a reading emphasis and writing goes hand and hand with reading.
