Patient PhD graduate from USC for tutoring K-12, college, & grad

I have recently completed a PhD program in epidemiology at USC. My undergraduate degree is in biology. In college I tutored high school math and science. Before graduate school, I spent 3 years tutoring and teaching at a private home school. I taught children from preschool through middle school in all subjects. In graduate school I tutored graduate students in epidemiology and biostatistics.

In addition to my experiences and education, I have a good personality for tutoring. I am very patient and one of my main strengths is the ability to explain material in different ways so that my students will understand it. If someone is having trouble in a class understanding what the teacher is teaching, the student needs to hear the material explained in a different way. I can also explain complex ideas (such as those in biostatistics) using real life examples that can help in understanding.

Elementary (K-6th)

I worked as a private teacher in a home school for 3 years teaching all elementary subjects for children in grades K-6.

Study Skills

I am well qualified to assist students with study skills. I can help students organize their course materials and create a plan to complete assignments and prepare for exams. I have excellent study skills myself as evidenced by my completing graduate studies.

Swimming

I began swimming at age 4 and swam competitively throughout high school and for 1 year in college. I have had lifeguard training and instruction in teaching swimming.

SAS

As a Master of Public Health student in epidemiology/biostatistics I studied SAS. I continued to study and use SAS as a doctoral student. I use SAS now regularly for the statistical analysis of my research projects. I have provided guidance to classmates on the use of SAS.

Public Speaking

As a graduate student I gained a great deal of experience in public speaking. I have given talks in classes I have and also given seminars on research I have done. I can help students organize the content of their talk, help students practice speaking, and give general public speaking advice.

Biostatistics

I have a Masters in Public Health with a focus in biostatistics and epidemiology. I have a PhD in epidemiology and my coursework included several biostatistics courses. I use biostatistical methods regularly in my doctoral research work. I have tutored graduate students in introduction to biostatistics courses.

Genetics

I have studies genetics in college as an undergraduate while majoring in biology. As a graduate student, I have continued my study of genetics, with a focus on human genetics and the statistical analysis of genetic data. I am now a fellow studying environmental genomics.
