I am a native Japanese speaker, with formal training in teaching Japanese as a foreign language. I am a graduate of KEC Japanese Language Institute in Kobe, Japan. I studied to become a Japanese teacher with the intention of teaching outside of Japan. I have experience teaching people of all levels and backgrounds both in Japan and here in Los Angeles. Currently, I have some celebrities as my students. I appreciate that I always can meet interesting people and really enjoy and love my job.
I worked for a language school before, and they sent me to Sony Pictures and Sony Networks. I was teaching there from 2010 to 2012. I am comfortable to teach in a group, and business Japanese. I am experienced in JLPT prep work as well. Also, I was working at Japanese Saturday school until March 2013. I was in charge of the 6-year-old class. I also love teaching kids and young people. After I started focusing on private lessons more, I also started teaching via online. You can find me in online tutors as well. By the way, I LOVE teaching beginners!!
I put a lot of time and effort into my lesson preparation. I am confident you will both learn a lot and have fun. I also love sharing stories about Japan with people who come from different countries. I want to tell you about Japanese culture as well as the language.
I currently live in Pasadena, but I was mainly teaching in West LA until 2013. So I still go to West LA a couple days a week. So please don't be afraid of contacting me even though you live far from my area. I also work on weekends.
On a personal note, I was born and raised in Osaka, Japan. (I love Osaka!) I moved to Los Angeles in 2010. I like manga/anime, movies, owarai (Japanese comedy) and cooking. I make a mean cheesecake (My Japanese cooking is good too though!). I love to chit-chat in person and by email.
I understand how hard learning another language is because I'm still learning English, and also I started learning other Asian languages: Korean and Chinese recently.
I will be happy if I can help you!
Quickest hour of my week. — Azumi is very well-prepared and well-trained in teaching Japanese. She gauges my skill level very accurately, and can anticipate common mistakes very well. To me, these are signs of having lots of experience. Her bright personality, broad life experiences and great sense of humor also make the lessons very relatable and enjoyable. All this makes it well worth my while to make the somewhat long dri ...
