About Azumi

Konnichiwa! Hello!

Thank you for your time to read my profile!

Currently I live in Northern California temporary, and will come back to LA (Pasadena) in May 2015. Sorry for the inconvenience.
I mainly teach Japanese via Online now, but let me explain about my lesson! :)

1, regular lesson (in person):
$45/hour. I can drive to only Pasadena/South Pasadena/San Marino/San Gabriel/Arcadia.
But you are welcome to have our lesson in my house or meet up at a cafe in Pasadena.

2, online lesson:
$40/hour plus a quiz (I give you a quiz before our lesson starts, so our lesson is going to be total more than 1hour for you, but I'll charge for one hour)
We look over the quiz together, and I'll explain if you forget or you don't understand the questions.

About textbooks:
Beginners: Genki/Japanese for busy people/Minna no Nihongo
Intermediate: Minna no Nihongo/Chukyu kara manabu Nihongo/Tobira
Advanced: depends on your goal such as for business and JLPT.

This is my profile as a Japanese tutor.
I am a native Japanese speaker, with formal training in teaching Japanese as a foreign language. I am a graduate of KEC Japanese Language Institute in Kobe, Japan. I studied to become a Japanese teacher with the intention of teaching outside of Japan. I have experience teaching people of all levels and backgrounds both in Japan and here in Los Angeles. Currently, I also have some celebrities as my clients. I appreciate that I always can meet new people and really enjoy and love my job.

I worked for Berlitz before, and they sent me to Sony Pictures and Sony Networks. I was teaching there from 2010 to 2012. I am comfortable to teach in a group, and business Japanese. I am experienced in JLPT prep work as well. Also, I was working at Japanese Saturday school until March 2013. I was in charge of the 6-year-old class. I also love teaching kids and young people. After I started focusing on private lessons more, I also started teaching via online. You can find me among online tutors as well. By the way, I LOVE teaching beginners!!

I put a lot of time and effort into my lesson preparation. I am confident you will both learn a lot and have fun. I also love sharing stories about Japan with people who come from different countries. I want to tell you about Japanese culture as well as the language.

On a personal note, I was born and raised in Osaka, Japan. (I love Osaka!) I moved to Los Angeles in 2010. I like otaku stuff (manga, anime, cosplay, Hatsune Miku, etc.) movies, owarai (Japanese comedy) and cooking. I make a mean cheesecake (my Japanese cooking is good too though!). I love to chit-chat in person and by email.

Feel free to ask me any questions about my lesson.
I will be very happy if I can help you!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Quickest hour of my week. — Azumi is very well-prepared and well-trained in teaching Japanese. She gauges my skill level very accurately, and can anticipate common mistakes very well. To me, these are signs of having lots of experience. Her bright personality, broad life experiences and great sense of humor also make the lessons very relatable and enjoyable. All this makes it well worth my while to make the somewhat long dri ...
