CBEST

I have taken this exam and have helped paraprofessional a at my school site to pass this exam. I know the content and what is expected in each section. I teach this same content to my sixth grade students in my own classroom, so I can help anyone pass this exam.

Dyslexia

I currently teach students in second through sixth grade who have learning disabilities. One of the disabilities that falls under the category of learning disabled is dyslexia. At this moment in time, I currently have two students in my current classroom whose disability is dyslexia. I have learned to teach these students many coping strategies which allows them to access the curriculum.

Elementary (K-6th)

Currently I hold a clear multiple subject credential from California and have taught public school for 16 years.

Phonics

Currently I hold both a multiple subject and a mild/ moderate education specialist clear credentials from California. I have attended the Governor's reading initiative and have been certified as a highly qualified teacher of reading. I am also considered highly qualified as per California state requirements. I have taught in the public school system for the past 16 years.

Special Needs

Currently I hold a clear mild to moderate teaching credential in the state of California. I have taught children with special needs for the past 16 years.

Study Skills

I have taught students with disabilities for the past 18 years. Many times, theses students are lacking the ability to organize themselves and need to be taught this skill directly. I have taught students to use color coded folders, notecards, post-it's, tabbed/labeled section dividers for their binder and how to organize a locker and a backpack so that they are organized daily for class. I have used the website backpackit.com to also help my students.

Approved Subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet certified in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
