He is easy to reach over the phone (call or text). He is able to answer all questions to a point where it is easy to understand (breaks down formulas and explains). He is very knowledgeable in many subjects, so no matter what it is he is able to help.

I found John very knowledgeable about many subjects about current events and real world experiences as a lawyer. However, he was unprepared to teach the verbal section of the MCAT. We read 2 passages together that I had read before, but had trouble comprehending. John did not provide me with an analysis or summary of the passages. I asked John about how to approach specific parts of the passage to improve comprehension but his feedback was not helpful. We answered quite a few questions incorrectly. His feedback for our mistakes left me unconvinced on why the correct answers were in fact correct. Comparing John to verbal instructors from my experience in 2 MCAT prep courses, he lacks a systematic and guided approach necessary to comprehending verbal passages and answering questions. He may be a great tutor for other standardized tests and possibly for the science sections of the MCAT, but not for the verbal section.

I did not finish all of my pages since I have a hard time meeting a deadline. I emailed him my last pages at 5:00 AM and he was so responsible that woke up early to help me. John has tutored both my boys in algebra and pre-algebra. My oldest son started with John two years ago. After each tutoring session, I always ask my sons what to rate his lesson, and they always choose 5 stars. John is methodical, patient, and clear. As a mom, I always appreciate the fact that he "debriefs" me after the lesson and lets me know where they are and what they covered, and if there were any "rough spots". He never judges his students and always has them leaving the session with a positive mind frame. It is a wonderful thing to have such a support when emotions can run high if a child doesn't understand a concept. John is a kind, supportive, knowledgeable teacher with a breadth of knowledge. More importantly, he can lift the struggling child to success in HOW to study and give skills to help them use in all academics.

My son who is now a Senior in high school looks forward to meeting with John 2 to 3 times a week. John is very good at boosting his self esteem. My sons grades have improved steadily since starting with John over a year ago. John is also very flexible and accommodating to our schedule which is also the icing on the cake. He is knowledgeable in most subjects and truly takes his job seriously. John was my 11th grade sons Algebra II tutor weekly for the past 8 months. I would recommend John as someone who will motivate your child using patience to help them understand their lessons. My son really liked Johns help and always felt like he explained the concepts better than his teacher did. Math is not my sons strength and is very hard for him to grasp so we needed John throughout the year to help our son pass his course.

My 13 yo son was having a little difficulty achieving his normal level of focus today. While our son is a good student he still gets lost sometimes on the nuances of High School Chemistry. John helps him with those areas and has made a significant difference between our son getting an B+ and getting a Solid A.
The convenience of working by email and phone rather than having in person meeting is just awesome.

I needed to motivate and get my son to get ready for high school over this summer, so I decided to book a session for my son and his friend together to give them some incentive. We have gone through many different tutor situations, private, after-school, group study ... it all worked and I thought that was what I should expect. But one session with John completely changed my mind. He is effective, engaging and most of all stimulates them to think and gives them confidence for sure. John has been a godsend for my 13 year old son, who was not being academically challenged in his current school. John has great respect for the advanced yet still-maturing mind, and takes his role seriously. The two of them discuss the application of algebra to astronomy, and then branch out from there, discussing the origins of the planet, the planets and stars, and other topics usually thought of as too difficult to tackle for a child that age. My son thoroughly enjoys John's calm presence and extraordinary knowledge. He makes learning come alive, and that is a priceless gift!

I took the GMAT recently, and attempted to study for it on my own using three different study guides that were loaded with examples, practice problems, and methods. Despite my self-inflicted slavery to my studying, I did not do anywhere near as well as I had hoped I would on the Quantitative section of the test. However, within a few minutes of sitting down with John, I was learning alternative, easier ways to find the answers to problems that had plagued me from Day 1 of studying on my own. I also found myself doing a great deal of material mentally rather than writing it all out. John's teaching methods pulled me out of the black hole of complication brought about by my Kaplan study guides and showed me a simpler, more time-efficient way of finding answers without having an anxiety attack of second-guessing. He's very knowledgeable, patient, encouraging, and great at building understanding and confidence. Great tutor!
