Effective tutor specializing in English and Study Skills

Tutoring has been, & still is, my main passion.

I have a total of just over 2 years of tutoring experience in phonics, grammar, handwriting, English, reading, spelling, K - 3rd grade math, social studies, American/World History, & basic creative writing.

I received my tutor training on, and continue to use, the Applied Scholastics Achievement Program, enabling students to see what something they are studying looks like, through pictures, sketching, using wood blocks, paper clips, rubber bands, etc. to demonstrate a concept in order to see how that is, clay demonstrations to get the same result, working with the student and materials on a gradient, and helping them clear up any words or symbols not fully understood in their studies.

I have gotten great results using this program with students I have had, both children & adults, & I personally find it the most rewarding when I see a student's face light up when they not only thoroughly understand what they are studying, but when they tell me they can APPLY what they are studying. In this way, everyone wins.

English

English is my strong point of my personal education and I can tutor a student to achieve the same. I have a very well-grounded grasp of English, having gotten excellent grades in this subject throughout my schooling.

Ear Training

I started ear training at the age of 10, when a piano teacher tested me, & determined I had perfect pitch. I have used this ability since that time, not only for myself, but for other piano & choir teachers.

This ability continues to be useful to me in life, with regards classical music pieces, specifically in certain keys & music directions.

General Music

I have a well-grounded, well-rounded education in general music.

I have taken classes from Music History to Music Theory to Choir, as well as piano lessons.

I have also been exposed to a wide range of music from Classical to more modern recordings from childhood forward.

Music History

I have been exposed to, have read up on & have taken classes in Music History, practically all of my life. The most notable times with getting educated in this subject have been in Elementary, Junior High & High School. I, additionally, have gained knowledge of this subject from my dad, as well as via the Internet, radio, & classical music concerts.

Sight Singing

I learned sight-singing as early as first grade, &, also with learning to read music, got very good at it.

Taking piano lessons have helped with the ability to do sight-singing, as far as identifying the position of the notes when sight-singing.

I also had good chorus/choir teachers that helped me achieve this ability, & I know I can do the same for others.

Study Skills

I have been trained in the Applied Scholastics Achievement Program, in which a key part of this program is teaching the student good study skills, using a proven method.

This method teaches the student on getting either the actual thing, a picture or a sketch on what he/she is studying about, studying on a gradient, as well as learning how to look up a word or symbol he/she does not fully understand.

Cosmetology

I have experience in this field in practice. I have a certificate from a cosmetology school in the state of Missouri. I feel qualified to not only tutor a student in this subject, but also tutor excellent study skills for a student to not only get a certificate & pass the State Board Exam, but to also enable the student to actually apply what has been learned to life.
