Hello students!

I recently moved to Palo Alto from Santa Cruz and am excited to meet and tutor new students in the Silicon Valley. I have over ten years experience in art and photography. I have worked in both traditional darkroom, as well as digital photography. I own a small professional portrait business and have over five years experience in Lightroom and Photoshop. I have also had six years experience teaching art to a range of ages from kindergarten to adult.

I am extremely patient and will work at the pace you feel comfortable with. I enjoy being a partner and a mentor in the learning process, as well as helping students figure out what kind of work flow and organization is best for their work. In fact, I will be attending San Jose State's MFA in Photography program in Fall 2014 so I can pursue a teaching career teaching Fine Art and Photography students at the university level.

When I'm not making art or working with clients, then I can be found with my nose in a book or learning something new (I recently just tried stand up paddle boarding for the first time!)

I look forward to hearing from you.

Carmina’s subjects

Adobe InDesign

I have been using InDesign for my own business and for my clients for over 6 years. I specialize in creating marketing and educational materials including postcards, announcements, fliers, and catalogs.

Adobe Lightroom

I have been using Lightroom extensively for my professional portrait business and for other professional photographers for over 4 years. I specialize in helping clients transition from other editing programs (like Aperture, iPhoto, and Picasa... and even from traditional photography) to Lightroom. I enjoy helping students organize their photos and guiding them in the set up of their Lightroom catalog(s).

Though I am trained to process and edit hundreds to thousands of photos in a day, everyone uses Lightroom for different reasons, and I can help you establish the basics of Lightroom to use in the way you need it.

In fact, a recent client who is normally a very composed woman, spontaneously giggled and hugged me when I showed her what was possible for organizing images for her organic farming and education projects.

Adobe Photoshop

I have been using Photoshop in my own business, as well as for other photographers for over 4 years. I specialize in retouching, correcting, and adjusting portraits while maintaining the original intent of the image.

In the past some of my students have needed to learn how to use Layers, remove dust or blemishes, create blur, re-size images, use masks, use the lasso tool, brighten or darken backgrounds, and add textures. These are only a few examples, and I am excited to hear about new projects students are working on.

Photography

I have been a photographer for over ten years. I own a small professional portrait studio and specialize in natural lighting and on-location portraits for maternity, newborn, and families. I am proficient in Lightroom, Photoshop, and Bridge, learning through photography workshops, intensive courses, as well as on the job. I also have a background in darkroom photography and use photography as my medium for making art.

I adore alternative and historical process photography, as well as iPhone-ography. I am excited to help and mentor students who are either learning to use a 35mm camera or their new iPhone or iPad.
