My name is Andrew H., I graduated SJSU with a degree in music. I have been playing music for 17 years, and my primary instrument is string bass. I also possess an AA degree in liberal arts and an AS degree in communications from West Valley College. My long-term goal is to become a teacher!
I am adept at many subjects, from music to math to reading, and I would love the chance to tutor your son or daughter in their materials!
I have experience working with children and youth since 2003, and I am actively involved in student ministries at my church. I have been teaching private lessons in music for 12 years, and I have been a general tutor in music, math, and reading for seven years.
In music, several of my students have gone on to win "outstanding musicianship" awards at various music festivals, and have continued to obtain music scholarships at various colleges for their advanced skills. I would love the opportunity to help YOUR child excel in music, math, reading, or anything!
I have learned to play cello as part of my music education at SJSU, and have performed cello in a number of performances locally. Coming from a string bass background, cello shares many of the same technique, and I can definitely tutor your son or daughter through the intermediate level!
I have taken ear training as part of my music education at SJSU, and it was definitely my strongest area. I am familiar with an assortment of songs that would aid in developing a good ear (like hearing the opening 5-1 motion in "here comes the bride"). I can easily identify the chord progression of any song as it plays, the first time I hear it, and I can transcribe most melodies after only one play-through.
I have always done well in my math classes. I would love the opportunity to enable your child to excel on their math homework and in their classes! I am patient and possess a clear speaking tone, which enable me to clearly communicate any tricky math problems!
I am a native English speaker and have always performed well on written tests and public speaking. I would love a chance to enable you or your child to speak and write English effectively, both in formal and informal discussions!
I have a bachelor's degree in music from San Jose State University. I have also been performing professionally for 11 years.
I have been playing guitar for 5 years and bass (including string bass) for 13 years. I am familiar with different chords and rhythms, and I have played in worship bands at my church and at Christian clubs in college. I write and record my own music as well.
I have become skilled in sight singing as part of my music education at SJSU, and it was arguably one of my strongest areas. I am a highly skilled reader of music, and this sightreading skill (along with a good ear) enable me to sight sing accurately.
I have learned all of the string instruments as part of my education at San Jose State University, and I can provide beginner-intermediate lessons on technique, as well as advanced lessons on form and musical interpretation on violin. I have been playing string instruments for 13 years, and have played violin specifically for 3 years.
