I received my PhD in mechanical engineering (robotics) from Stanford University, and I specialize in teaching physics, math, and programming. In addition to private tutoring of middle and high school students, I teach courses in mechanical engineering at SJSU, and I was a teaching assistant in 4 courses at Stanford. As someone with expertise in the very multi-disciplinary field of robotics, I can help you relate seemingly disconnected topics to each other to improve your understanding of the "big picture." Physics

Physics has been one of my best subjects since high school. I have tutored students (not to mention friends) in physics almost since day one. Since physics is a melding of physical principles and mathematics, I use physical demos to build intuition about key concepts, while also emphasizing the value of symbolic manipulation (algebra and calculus) to solve problems.

Prealgebra

I think it is critical that students get a strong start in prealgebra; a solid foundation will help carry them through calculus and beyond, and help them succeed in science and engineering as well. I have tutored students in algebra throughout college and graduate school. I can help motivate students to understand why the math is important by providing real-world examples in physics and engineering.

Precalculus

Students can't succeed in calculus if they don't have a strong foundation in precalculus skills. I have tutored students in pre-calculus and calculus throughout college and graduate school. I can help motivate students to understand why the math is important by providing real-world examples in physics and engineering.

C++

I have 5 years' experience using C++ in robotics research, and I was a teaching assistant in a C++-based course at Stanford University. I can help you understand how to implement algorithms, make use of 3D math and graphics libraries, and interface with hardware. I am also familiar with best practices in version control, issue tracking, and other skills relevant to using C++ in a production environment.

C

In a past life my education focused heavily on low-level programming and embedded systems. I can teach you how to deal with the challenges of low-level development in C (and assembly). I also have experience with microcontroller hardware, circuit debugging, and other issues that often come up in such projects.

Computer Programming

Programming is not so much about any particular language, but about a style of thinking and familiarity with common operations and algorithms. Besides working as a teaching assistant in one programming-based course at Stanford, I use programming on a daily basis in the context of both research and production-level software engineering. I can teach you concepts of computer programming in any of several languages, including C/C++, Python, and Javascript. Please inquire about other languages.

Linear Algebra

Linear algebra is a very powerful subject, but it is typically taught in a very "mathy" way. If students aren't given context and physical intuition, it is very difficult to understand or retain these concepts. With my background in robotics, I have extensive experience using linear algebra to solve real-world problems. I can help you gain intuition about the subject and visualize how it works by relating it to a variety of applications, such as data analysis, graphics, and robotics.

Linux

I use Linux (specifically Ubuntu) on a daily basis on my personal and work computers. I know how frustrating it can be getting started in Linux (Google doesn't help until you know the relevant terminology to search for!). I can help you with getting started and learning how to do common tasks, and also teach you advanced skills like using the command line and manually configuring settings. I am a graduating PhD student in robotics at Stanford University.

MATLAB

I am a graduating PhD student in robotics at Stanford University. I have used MATLAB extensively in coursework and research for analyzing and plotting data, prototyping algorithms, and designing controllers. I can teach you about advanced techniques such as setting up scripts, writing functions, running simulations, and using the dreaded ode45 function!

Electrical Engineering

My undergraduate degree included significant work in electronics, and I have designed embedded systems in a variety of projects. I have tutored students in circuit analysis, basic E&M, signal processing, and controls. I can also help you with circuit design, debugging, chip selection, PCB layout/fabrication.

Mechanical Engineering

I have an MS (and soon to be PhD) in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University. My primary expertise is in mechanics (kinematics, statics, dynamics); I taught dynamics for two semesters at SJSU and was a teaching assistant in three similar courses at Stanford. I use lots of physical demos and emphasize concepts, context, and calculation.
